UP CM Yogi Adityanath vows to crush medical mafia, orders accountability in all projects

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has once again reiterated his government’s zero-tolerance policy towards mafias in every field, including the medical sector. During a comprehensive review of development projects in Gorakhpur, UP CM Yogi made it clear that although mafia rule has been dismantled across Uttar Pradesh, strict vigilance must continue to ensure that no organised network emerges in the field of healthcare.

The Chief Minister pointed out that despite remarkable improvements in the medical sector in recent years, occasional complaints still surface regarding ambulance mafias or middlemen who exploit patients during hospital admissions. Such practices, he said, are unacceptable and will not be allowed to resurface under any circumstances.  He asked health department officials to keep a close eye on ambulance services, patient admission processes, and billing practices in private hospitals. Any false practice must be reported and acted upon immediately.

In recent years, Uttar Pradesh has made significant progress in expanding healthcare facilities. New medical colleges, AIIMS Gorakhpur, and upgraded district hospitals are part of this transformation. The Chief Minister said that these efforts will continue, but alongside expansion, vigilance is equally important.

Since coming to power in 2017, the Yogi government has launched a decisive campaign against mafias and organized crime in Uttar Pradesh. Whether in real estate, education, industry, or healthcare, groups that once exploited common citizens have been systematically dismantled. He emphasized that the same approach must now be followed in the medical sector. Exploitation of vulnerable patients, whether through inflated ambulance charges, middlemen demanding commission for hospital admissions, or private entities exploiting government healthcare schemes will be dealt with sternly.

Accountability Fixed for Every Project

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stressed that accountability must be ensured in all development projects. He announced that every project in Uttar Pradesh will have fixed responsibility so that progress can be tracked at each stage and delays can be prevented. Officials will have to give regular updates, and any negligence will face strict action.

Progress on the Godhoiya Drain Project

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also reviewed the Godhoiya Nala (drain) project in Gorakhpur, which is important to solve the city’s waterlogging problem. The project has been delayed for years, and he asked officials to speed up the work and finish it on time. He said the drain is not just about convenience but also about public health, as stagnant water spreads diseases during the monsoon. Once completed, the project will improve the sanitation and living conditions for thousands of families in Gorakhpur.

Victory Against Encephalitis: A Landmark Achievement

Gorakhpur and surrounding eastern UP districts have long been known as hotspots for encephalitis, a deadly disease that has claimed thousands of young lives over decades. The Chief Minister, who hails from Gorakhpur himself, has made encephalitis control a mission since taking charge of the state.

During the review meeting, CM Yogi proudly noted that the state has largely brought encephalitis under control through a mix of vaccination drives, improved medical infrastructure, and awareness campaigns. Mortality rates have dropped drastically compared to previous years. However, he also issued a word of caution: “We must not let our guard down. Continuous vigilance is necessary. Sanitation, vaccination, and awareness campaigns should continue so that no resurgence of encephalitis occurs.”

Infrastructure and Road Development

The Chief Minister also reviewed progress on infrastructure projects, particularly roads. He instructed officials to ensure the repair and widening of several key stretches, including Teli Chauraha to Champaran, and the street widening projects that are pending. He emphasized that poor road conditions not only cause inconvenience to citizens but also hinder economic growth. With Gorakhpur emerging as a major hub in eastern Uttar Pradesh, good connectivity is vital. The Chief Minister directed that road projects be completed on priority to ensure smooth traffic, reduce accidents, and improve transportation of goods.

Bal Vatika for Schoolchildren

CM Yogi also gave directions for the education sector. He asked officials to introduce the Bal Vatika initiative in government schools, which provides preparatory classes for children below Class 1. This program, under the National Education Policy, will help in building a strong foundation through early childhood education.

Throughout the review, CM Yogi repeatedly emphasised that monitoring is the backbone of effective governance. Whether it is roads, drains, schools, or hospitals, he said that monitoring systems must be strong enough to detect lapses early. He suggested that both physical inspections and technological monitoring tools should be used. He added that negligence or corruption in government projects will not be tolerated.
