Hazaribagh: Suspected members of the Maoist group Tritiya Sammellan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) or TPC, torched multiple vehicles of a private company in Hazaribagh’s Charhi area.
The incident occurred on the intervening night of August 23-24 at around 1 AM, leaving the locals in a panicked state.
According to media reports, as many as 6 vehicles of an outsourcing company associated with a Central Coalfield Limited’s [CCL] project in the area was targeted and set ablaze by a group of extremists.
The extremists torched 6 vehicles including Hyvas by pouring petrol on them. They also thrashed the operators and staffs present on the spot, warning them with more severe consequences in future. They further dropped pamphlets with a warning to shut down the work before fleeing the spot.
It is being speculated that the incident was carried out for levy purposes. Notably, similar incidents of arson and thrashing of staffs are often being carried out by the Maoist groups to put pressure and extort money from companies involved in mining or other government projects in the state.

Founded in 2002 after splitting from Maoist Communist Centre of India (MCCI), which later merged with the People’s War Group to form CPI Maoist, TSPC is a Maoist outfit, functional mainly in the state of Jharkhand.
The members of the group have been involved in carrying out various unlawful activities in the state such as levy extortion, disrupting development projects and unleashing violence against innocent civilians.
It is worth mentioning here that security forces have achieved commendable success in containing the Maoist-insurgency in the state of Jharkhand, confining the extremists in small pockets of a few districts only.
This comes after the forces in recent years launched a series of operations in Budha Pahad, Parasnath Pahadi and other adjoining areas, earlier identified as Maoist stronghold.
According to Union Government only two districts, West Singhbhum and Latehar stands largely affected by Maoist terror in the state with security forces continuing operations to trace and eliminate active armed Naxals.
The Union Government has announced to wipe out Maoist terror from Bharat by March next year.
