Bijapur: A jawan of the District Reserve Guard [DRG] attained Veergati while a few others have sustained serious injuries in an Improvised Explosive Device [IED] blasts triggered by Maoist in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police officials said on August 18.
The blast took place in National Park area of Bhopalpattnam, injuring 3-4 personnel of DRG team which was out on a search operation in the area.
One of the injured personnel Dinesh Nag later succumbed to his injuries, while the other injured jawans were evacuated and being treated. The development has been confirmed by the authorities and more details about the incident are awaited.

The blast has occurred amidst intensified campaign of security forces against Naxals in state’s Bastar division.
Earlier on August 13, a joint team of security personnel neutralised two dreaded naxal cadres carrying a combined bounty of Rs 1.16 crore during a gun battle in Chhattisgarh’s Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district.
Those killed in the gun fight were identified as Vijay Reddy, a member of the Dandkaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC), who carried a bounty of Rs 90 lakh, and Lokesh Salame, Secretary of the Rajnandgaon-Kanker Border (RKB) division of the outlawed CPI [Maoist], carrying a bounty of Rs 26 lakh on his head.
The operation was launched jointly by Chhattisgarh Police, DRG, and the 27th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).
The joint team following the exchange of fire also recovered weapons and other naxal-related materials from the site. The encounter leading to neutralization of Reddy and Salame marked yet another major blow to the Maoist group which is reported to be battling for survival.
Four Maoists surrender before police in Gariaband
In a related development, as many as four hardcore Maoists surrender before police in Gariaband district, said officials on August 17. The surrendered group included of two women cadres of the outlawed Maoist outfit.
As per officials, those who parted ways with the unlawful group were seasoned cadres and carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 19 lakhs.

“This is an unprecedented success for Gariaband Police, this area, and for the state. 4 Naxal cadres, who were active for the last decade in this region, have surrendered with their weapons… They told us that the youth in Naxal organisations want to leave this path of violence and come to the mainstream, but they are being held captive… They had a total prize of Rs 19 lakh on them,” said IG Raipur Range, Amresh Mishra.
