Guwahati: ‘Jamai Basti’ or ‘Son-in-Laws colony’, the new ploy by Bangladeshi origin Muslims to invade Hindu, Assamese majority upper Assam. Yes, you read it right, the migrants are targeting the Assamese speaking or the indigenous Muslim girls to get a piece of land in the upper Assam districts. Senior BJP MLA of Khumtai constituency in Golaghat district Mrinal Saikia said that knowingly or unknowingly indigenous Muslims have established marriage relations with Bangladeshi origin Muslims.
Their daughters are getting married with Bangladeshi origin Muslims or sometimes intruders directly coming from Bangladeshi. Once they get married, those Miya people get a certificate to stay in upper Assam by setting up son-in-laws colonies. In Golaghat town places like Islambasti are full of such suspicious people staying as tenants and local Muslims have given them the opportunity, MLA Saikia added.
He said, almost all districts of lower Assam have become Muslim majority districts. Now their target is upper Assam. Either they will encroach on forest land like Rengma forest in Uriamghat and Negheribil in Merapani or they will get married with local Muslim girls and set up Jamai Basti. This practice has been continued by the Bangladeshi origin Muslims for years and as a result many Jamai Basti have come up in many upper Assam districts. Seeing one Miya getting married here, another will come and slowly they set up a Basti and change the demography of the area.
When their population increases our people will move out of that area making a way for them for further expansion. If this continues, these Jamai Basti will in the near future change the demography of the entire district, MLA Saikia added. The senior BJP MLA further said that we need special acts to counter this conspiracy. He explains, there is no legal obligation to come from lower Assam to upper Assam and get married within the same faith. There is no objection in buying or inheriting property from the in-laws and there is no legal objection in getting a rented house by these people. But all these three processes are dangerous for a huge demographic change in the upper Assam districts.
If they get married, buy or rent property they become permanent residents of the upper Assam districts and later on get their name included in the voter list. Seeing their rapid population growth, one can imagine how fast they can politically influence an Assamese majority constituency. So we need special acts which prevent the Bangladeshi origin Muslims from getting married, buying or owning property and even getting rented accommodation in the upper Assam districts, MLA Saikia added.
Reacting on the issue, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that many new things are being exposed these days and many news conspiracies would be exposed in the coming days.
