The Lok Sabha witnesses a continuation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s powerful address on Operation Sindoor, as he laid bare the strategic, political, and humanitarian dimensions of India’s latest counter-terror response. In a follow-up to his earlier remarks, Shah offered a clear and comprehensive account of the events following the Pahalgam terror attack, reinforcing the government’s stance of zero tolerance towards cross-border terrorism and its unwavering commitment to national security.

Shah revealed that on April 30, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) convened to grant full operational freedom to the armed forces. The result was Operation Sindoor, executed in the early hours of May 7, between 1:04 am and 1:24 am, during which Indian forces successfully destroyed nine terror infrastructure sites located in Pakistan. Importantly, Shah emphasised that no Pakistani civilian casualties were reported during the precision strikes, underscoring the government’s intent to target only those responsible for perpetrating violence against Indian civilians.

Reaffirming India’s sovereign right to self-defence, Shah said that following the operation, India’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) directly informed his Pakistani counterpart of the targeted nature of the strike. He contrasted this bold and transparent approach with the inaction of previous regimes, pointing out that during the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh, terrorist attacks were met with silence rather than retaliation.

Taking aim at the Opposition, Shah responded to allegations made during Monday’s debate. He clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was abroad at the time of the Pahalgam terror attack, dismissing claims that the Prime Minister was campaigning in Bihar while the tragedy unfolded. Shah pointed out that on April 24, the day of Modi’s Bihar visit, only Rahul Gandhi visited Pahalgam, not the entire Opposition leadership as claimed. Shah reminded the House that it is the Prime Minister’s constitutional duty to respond firmly to such attacks and provide leadership in moments of national crisis.

Drawing a sharp distinction between the two recent operations, Shah said Operation Sindoor eliminated those responsible for planning and orchestrating the attack from across the border, while Operation Mahadev, conducted earlier this week, neutralised the actual perpetrators who executed the attack on the ground. He expressed disappointment that instead of standing with the nation in the moment of triumph, some opposition members chose to politicise the operation. “Their faces turned grim when they should have shown pride in India’s security forces,” he remarked.

Shah also highlighted the investigative efforts that led to these operations. He stated that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had detained those who had sheltered and fed the terrorists. The three attackers, identified as Sulaiman, Jibran, and Afghani, were conclusively matched to the Pahalgam terror attack through forensic evidence. The cartridges recovered from the crime scene had already undergone forensic testing, and when the rifles seized after Operation Mahadev were analysed in Chandigarh, the results confirmed their role in the killings.

Recounting his meeting with the victims’ families, Shah recalled the painful memory of a young widow whose husband was killed just six days after their wedding. He said such encounters strengthen the government’s resolve to act swiftly and decisively against those who harm innocent civilians. Shah condemned the attackers’ brutality, stating that victims were killed in front of their families after being asked their religion. He assured the House that the government would continue to act with full force against terrorism, with no compromise on national security.

The special discussion draws to a close with Prime Minister Modi’s concluding speech later in the evening.
