Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed, manager of Al Farooq Inter College in Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly forcing a Hindu employee to convert to Islam and forging documents. The case has sparked controversy, with Congress and Bhim Army leaders extending their support to the accused

In another reported case of forced religious conversion in Uttar Pradesh, police have arrested Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed, the manager of Al Farooq Inter College in Itwa, Siddharthnagar district. He is accused of pressuring a man named Akhand Pratap Singh to convert to Islam.

Authorities are also investigating Shabbir’s possible ties to Jalaluddin alias Chhangur, the alleged mastermind behind the Balrampur Islamic conversion racket.

The incident dates back to 2020–21, when Singh, seeking employment, applied for a clerk position at the college. Shabbir reportedly offered him a monthly salary of Rs 15,000. Within 8–10 days of joining, Shabbir allegedly summoned Singh to his office and had him sign a blank Rs 100 affidavit under the pretence of a duty agreement.

Shabbir Allegedly Forges Affidavit Declaring Forced Conversion

Some time after securing the signed blank affidavit, Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed allegedly presented Akhand Pratap Singh with a completed version that left him stunned. The affidavit, bearing Singh’s signature, falsely claimed he had voluntarily converted to Islam and adopted a new name.

“I declare that I am a Hindu by religion. I am deeply influenced by the teachings of Islam. I believe in the religious beliefs of Islam. I have accepted Islam out of my own free will and without anyone’s pressure. My new Islamic name is Imran Khan,” the affidavit read.

Following the forged affidavit incident, Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed reportedly began criticising Hindu customs and rituals in conversations with Akhand Pratap Singh, urging him to embrace Islam. Despite Singh’s clear refusal, Shabbir allegedly continued to pressure him.

According to Singh, he later received a WhatsApp call from a Maulana based overseas, who offered him Rs 20 lakh in cash, a house in Gujarat, and a car as incentives to convert to Islam. Singh refused the offer and, after discovering the contents of the forged affidavit, resigned from his job at the college.

However, the pressure didn’t stop there—Shabbir reportedly continued to hound him about converting. Singh eventually managed to retrieve the affidavit from the college. Sources claim to possess a copy of the document.

Singh Files Complaint With Police and CM Yogi, Alleges Multiple Forced Conversions

In a statement, Akhand Pratap Singh alleged that Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed has forcibly converted 15–16 Hindus to Islam over the past few years using similar tactics. Singh claimed that in 2018, Shabbir converted a Hindu man from the Yadav community in the Golhaura police station area—someone who has reportedly been missing ever since. Singh also expressed concern that other Hindu employees at Al Farooq Inter College may have been subjected to the same pressure and possibly converted as well.

The victim has filed a formal written complaint with both the local police and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, outlining the entire series of events.

Akhand Pratap Singh revealed that his earlier attempts to file a complaint against Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed were dismissed by the police, who advised him to forward his grievance to the SSP and the Chief Minister instead. Singh said he was hesitant to speak out initially, citing Shabbir’s wealth and influence in the area as a major deterrent. However, following the recent bust of the Balrampur Islamic conversion racket, Singh said he gained the confidence to come forward, believing that the authorities would now take his complaint seriously.

According to Akhand Pratap Singh, Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed has been operating an Islamic conversion racket under the guise of running Al Farooq Inter College, allegedly receiving funding from Gulf countries. Singh claims Shabbir used these foreign funds to facilitate religious conversions and to run businesses under other people’s names.

Singh further stated that Shabbir, who worked as a driver around 15–16 years ago, has amassed significant wealth in recent years. He has called on the police to thoroughly investigate Shabbir’s properties and financial records, including his bank accounts.

Police post in-charge Anil Ojha told sources that authorities are currently examining several documents seized from the college as part of the investigation.

Congress Legal Cell to Defend Shabbir Ahmed in Court

Following the arrest of Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed, the Legal Department of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee issued a statement alleging that he was falsely implicated. The party has announced that advocates Ravindra Singh, Imran Asim Khan, and Sahodar Tripathi will represent Shabbir in the Allahabad High Court.

Bhim Army Chief Chandra Shekhar Azad Backs Shabbir Ahmed

Bhim Army Chief Chandra Shekhar Azad has voiced support for the accused, Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed. Calling him “a symbol of religious education, social harmony, and goodwill,” Azad claimed the allegations are baseless and politically motivated, accusing the BJP of orchestrating the case against him.

“In 2020, a complainant who applied for a job at the college was not selected. Now, in 2025, the same person is suddenly accusing Maulana of religious conversion—without any new evidence or incident. At the behest of BJP leaders, this individual has made false and baseless allegations, harassing Maulana Sahib by dragging him into a fabricated case,” he wrote on X.
