In a disturbing incident that has reignited deep concern over the safety of Indian students in Australia, 23-year-old Charanpreet Singh has been hospitalised following a brutal and racially motivated attack in the heart of Adelaide. The violent assault occurred near Kintore Avenue recently while Singh was out with his wife to view light displays in the city.

According to media reports, Singh and his wife had just parked their car when a group of five men exited another vehicle and launched an unprovoked attack. Armed with what appeared to be metal knuckles or sharp objects, the assailants set upon Singh without warning, brutally beating him while hurling racial slurs. The attackers reportedly shouted “F**k off, Indian” as they assaulted him, before fleeing the scene.

Singh was left lying unconscious on the road with severe facial fractures and suspected brain trauma. Eyewitness videos circulating online show the horrifying moments of the attack, highlighting the sheer ferocity of the violence.

Despite the trauma, Singh’s wife showed immense courage by immediately pursuing the attackers and capturing their car’s registration number on video as they drove off “like nothing happened.”

Singh, speaking later to media from his hospital bed, said that the situation initially appeared to stem from a car parking issue but swiftly escalated into a racial assault. He recalled how the attackers did not speak or argue beforehand, they simply approached and began to punch him while yelling racial abuse.

South Australia Police confirmed that officers responded to calls just before 9:30 PM on Kintore Avenue. Upon arrival, they found the 22-year-old victim on the ground with serious facial injuries and rushed him to the hospital. Authorities have launched an investigation, and inquiries into the incident are ongoing.

This brazen and targeted attack has triggered outrage within the Indian community who have long raised alarms over the growing risks faced by international students in Australia. The use of racial slurs during the assault adds a grave dimension to the incident, pointing to deep-rooted issues of xenophobia that demand urgent redress.

As the investigation unfolds, there are rising calls for accountability and justice, not only for Charanpreet Singh but for all those who have suffered racial violence while seeking a better future abroad. Such attacks are a stark reminder of the urgent need to address racism in all its forms, especially in multicultural societies that pride themselves on inclusivity.
