Hyderabad, July 19: “In a major infrastructure push, we are working to double the train handling capacity in the Secunderabad zone—from 600 trains per day to 1,200. This expansion is critical to meet growing demand and to prepare Hyderabad for the next phase of rail-driven development,” said Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Railways of India.  The Minister was on a visit to Hyderabad to attend several programmes.

Highlighting the broader vision for rail infrastructure in Telangana, he added, “Secunderabad station is undergoing major redevelopment. We are exploring a hub-based configuration where multiple stations in the city will function as nodal points—facilitating smoother North, South, East, and West-bound connectivity.”

The Minister also drew attention to the transformative potential of the Regional Ring Road (RRR). “The RRR will be a game changer for Telangana. I’ve requested the Hon’ble Chief Minister to allocate a 30-metre-wide corridor along the Ring Road. This will allow us to integrate rail connectivity and create inland depots—vital for boosting manufacturing and providing seamless port access,” he explained.

Turning to advancements in the tech sector, the Minister lauded IIT Hyderabad’s achievements in semiconductor design. “IIT-H is among the most active of the 270 institutions under the India Semiconductor Mission. Eight of their student teams have successfully designed and taped out semiconductor chips, both at the domestic fab in Mohali and abroad,” he said.

“This is exactly in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to empower students with cutting-edge tools in strategic technologies—semiconductors, AI, quantum tech, and electronics. I have urged IIT Hyderabad to further deepen its research efforts,” he concluded.
