On July 14, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh as the Governor of Haryana, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju as the Governor of Goa, and Kavinder Gupta as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
President Droupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Former deputy chief minister of undivided J&K, Kavinder Gupta, has been appointed as his successor. The appointments were announced through an official notification from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh will replace Bandaru Dattatreya as Governor of Haryana, a position Dattatreya has held since 2021. Meanwhile, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju will succeed PS Sreedharan Pillai as Governor of Goa.
Kavinder Gupta
Kavinder Gupta, a senior BJP leader, served as the last Deputy Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of J&K, which then included Ladakh. He also set a record by winning the Jammu mayoral elections for three consecutive terms from 2005 to 2010.
Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh
Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh is a senior BJP leader and academic from West Bengal. A political science graduate from Vidyasagar College in Kolkata, he spent several years as a professor of political science before transitioning into politics.
Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju
Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, a senior leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), hails from the Vizianagram royal family in Andhra Pradesh. He served as the Union Civil Aviation Minister in Prime Minister Modi’s first cabinet from 2014 to 2018, stepping down when the TDP exited the NDA over the demand for special status to Andhra Pradesh. Raju is also a seven-term MLA from Vizianagram.
