The Bharath Hindu Munnani has filed a formal complaint with the Chennai Police, urging legal action against actor Sathyaraj for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Hindutva and Hindu gods. Sathyaraj, known for his consistently Hinduphobic rhetoric—particularly his repeated targeting of Hindu deities—has once again stirred controversy with disparaging comments made during a recent public event.
Satish, the district organiser of the Bharath Hindu Munnani, submitted the complaint at the office of the Chennai Police Commissioner on 8 July 2025.

According to the complaint, during an event held on 24 June at Kalaivanar Arangam, organised by the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Sathyaraj allegedly referred to Hindu deities as “imaginary and exaggerated illusions.”
The Bharath Hindu Munnani further alleged that Sathyaraj made controversial remarks supporting the LTTE—a banned terrorist organisation responsible for the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Reportedly, Sathyaraj expressed pride in unveiling a portrait of LTTE leader Prabhakaran at the event and credited VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan for giving him the opportunity.
In its two-page complaint, the organisation stated that the event’s organisers unveiled the portrait of LTTE leader V Prabhakaran, who orchestrated the 1991 suicide bomb attack that killed Rajiv Gandhi at Sriperumbudur, near Kancheepuram. The group argued that glorifying such a figure and Sathyaraj’s accompanying speech would mislead the youth and embolden terrorist sentiments. “LTTE is a banned outfit, and unveiling its leader’s picture is illegal,” the complaint asserted. Sathyaraj’s claim that “all Hindu gods are imaginary and illusionary” was said to have deeply hurt the sentiments and faith of crores of Hindus worldwide.
The statement continued:
“Hindus have, for ages, worshipped the Sun, Moon, Pancha Bhootas, stones, idols, and nature as manifestations of divinity. They live a disciplined and dharmic life. To refer to Hindu gods as imaginary figures is a deliberate and disparaging attack on their faith. He did not critique the beliefs or rituals of other religions, which too are based on faith and tradition. We have watched his speech, which is clearly illegal and warrants immediate and stern legal action. It constitutes nothing less than hate speech.”
Satish also noted that this was not the first time Sathyaraj had insulted Hindu gods, and urged the authorities to treat this as a repeated offence and take suitable legal action. In his speech, the actor also quoted Periyar in an attempt to justify his remarks.

In a separate but related incident, police have arrested Arunagiri (60), a former close aide of MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, for allegedly posting content on his blog that insulted Hindu deities and religious practices.

The arrest was made following a complaint by Hindu Munnani leader Padagalingam at the Sankarankovil police station. Arunagiri, who frequently posted derogatory content on Facebook and his blog under the pseudonym “Arunagiri Sankarankovil,” was presented before Magistrate Suresh Kumar and remanded to Tirunelveli Central Jail.
However, this is one of the rare cases where action has gone beyond the Community Service Register (CSR) stage. Numerous complaints have been filed against DMK leaders like Udhayanidhi Stalin for his “Sanatana annihilation” remark, DMK MP A Raja, VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, DK leader K Veeramani, lyricist Vairamuthu, as well as several Muslim and Christian leaders. Yet, none of those cases have progressed beyond the CSR stage.
The complaint concludes by alleging that the police under the DMK-led government act in a biased manner, either to please their political masters or to act upon direct instructions, thereby failing to uphold justice impartially.
