New Delhi: Launching a scathing attack on the opposition parties, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on July 3 termed the meeting of a delegation of the INDIA bloc leaders with the Election Commission of India over the Bihar voter list revision as an “insult” to democracy and Bharat’s institutions.

The BJP leader claimed that the INDI alliance is in “deep shock” due to the “fear of defeat” in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.

“The INDI Alliance is in deep shock due to the fear of their crushing defeat in the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. The leaders of the INDI Alliance aim to discredit the Election Commission, a world-renowned, independent, and impartial institution”

“Actually, they know they are going to lose, so now they want to blame the Election Commission… This is an insult to democracy and the institutions of India.”, said Chugh.

Chugh’s attack has arrived on the heels of a delegation of INDIA bloc leaders from 11 political parties meeting with the Election Commission of India (ECI) in the national capital to register their opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls currently underway in Bihar. The delegation leaders questioned the timing of the exercise, noting that it is being carried out only months before the assembly polls.

The delegation included representatives from Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Samajwadi Party, National Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) left parties and others who raised their concerns over the ongoing drive.

“Representatives of various political parties(PPs) met Election Commission comprising CEC Gyanesh Kumar along with ECs Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr Vivek Joshi at ECI, New Delhi, today to discuss the issues related to Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar,” said a post of ECI on X.

The Commission further informed that the SIR is being conducted in accordance with provisions of Constitution and aimed at identifying ineligible voters along ensuring that no eligible voter is left out.

Commission thanked all political parties for appointing more than 1.5 lakh BLAs at ground level for participating in the SIR exercise.

In the end, Commission also thanked all political parties for actively participating in SIR process so that no eligible voter is left out. (4/4)

“Commission stated that SIR is being conducted in accordance with provisions of Article 326, RP Act 1950 & instructions issued on 24.06.2025 Party representatives raised concerns related to SIR. Each concern which was raised by any member of PP was fully addressed by Commission,” the post added.

Bihar state assembly polls are expected to be held in October-Nov this year, where the ruling NDA is up against the grand alliance led by RJD.
