Mumbai, June 28, 2025 – In a profoundly shocking and heartbreaking development, actress and model Shefali Jariwala, widely recognized as the iconic “Kaanta Laga” girl from the early 2000s, has tragically passed away at the age of 42. Her sudden demise has sent ripples of grief across the Indian entertainment industry and left her legions of fans in disbelief.

According to reports from journalist Vickey Lalwani, Shefali was rushed to Bellevue Multispeciality Hospital in Andheri, Mumbai, late on Friday night. However, medical sources at the hospital confirmed the devastating news, stating that she was declared dead on arrival. “She was already gone when they brought her here,” a staff member at the reception unit revealed, adding that her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, along with three other individuals, had accompanied her to the emergency unit in a desperate attempt to save her.

While the Resident Medical Officer on duty, a cardiologist, maintained patient confidentiality by stating, “I cannot share any information,” Dr. Sushant from the same hospital later confirmed Shefali Jariwala’s passing. He further informed media that her body is being transferred to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem examination, the results of which are awaited to ascertain the exact cause of her untimely death. Some initial reports have suggested a cardiac arrest as the cause, though official confirmation is pending.

Shefali Jariwala shot to overnight stardom with her appearance in the highly popular 2002 remix music video “Kaanta Laga.” Her bold look, distinctive style, and memorable dance moves captivated a generation, making her a household name and a defining figure of early 2000s Indian pop culture. Despite her meteoric rise, Shefali had been open about the challenges she faced, including a prolonged battle with epilepsy since the age of 15, which reportedly influenced her career choices in the years following “Kaanta Laga.” She had candidly spoken about how stress and anxiety could trigger seizures and the impact it had on her self-esteem, but also shared her journey towards being seizure-free for many years.

Beyond her initial music video fame, Shefali continued to be a familiar face in the entertainment circuit, participating in various television shows and reality series. Her stint in Colors TV’s popular reality show Bigg Boss 13 further endeared her to audiences, where she was widely praised for her honesty, strength, and outspoken personality. Off-camera, she was also known for advocating for mental health awareness, earning admiration for her openness and resilience in discussing personal struggles.

The news of her sudden demise has triggered a massive outpouring of grief on social media platforms, with fans, friends, and industry colleagues expressing their shock and offering condolences. Tributes are pouring in, remembering her vibrant spirit, infectious energy, and her significant contribution to the entertainment world.
