Sweeping the Mandir Floors: A Symbol of Service

Recently, President Murmu visited the revered Mahakal Mandir in Ujjain, where she participated in seva by sweeping the Mandir premises. Clasping a broom with folded hands, she demonstrated that true service transcends rank or titles. This humble act of cleaning the sanctum and corridors of a major pilgrimage site echoed Gandhian ideals of ashahya, where dignity and devotion are found in the humblest of tasks. Her gesture served as a powerful reminder that the spiritual life is not measured by austerity alone but by one’s willingness to serve the Divine in all creatures and spaces.

Bowing at the Feet of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya

On her pilgrimage to Ayodhya, President Murmu sought the darsan of Ram Lalla—the child form of Bhagwan Ram. Standing amidst the throng of devotees, her presence became a symbol of spiritual unity across caste, creed, and community. In a place sacred to many, she invoked the timeless ideals of dharma, compassion, and service—central to the ramabhakti tradition. Her visit made it clear that the ideals of Sanatan Dharma are not merely spiritual theories, but living principles that bind every layer of Indian society.

Taking the Sacred Dip in Prayagraj’s Sangam

During the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, President Murmu participated in the ritual of praksala, bathing in the holy confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. Undertaking the holy dip at a time when millions gathered to cleanse their karmas, she aligned herself with a lineage of seekers spanning millennia. Her presence at the Sangam testifies to the unbroken continuity of spiritual tradition and highlights her commitment to the cultural and ritualistic heartbeat of Bharat.

A President Unapologetically Rooted in Faith

President Murmu’s series of spiritual engagements is striking because it steps beyond ceremonial acts. She could have merely made formal visits but instead chose to engage directly, sweeping floors, bowing in devotion, and touching the sacred waters. This is not a political spectacle; it is an authentic living of faith. Speaking informally to aides during her tours, she emphasised that true bhakti is found in silence, solitude, and service, not in pomp. In a world clamouring for grand gestures, her simple acts evoke a resounding truth: spirituality is in the subtle gestures of humility and faith practised every day.

Bridging Tradition and Modernity

President Murmu’s devotion carries special significance as she represents India’s janjati heritage. Her integration into the highest constitutional office, coupled with her spiritual identity, underscores the inclusiveness of Bharat’s cultural fabric. Her pilgrimages and seva are not just personal; they carry a greater national message that true equality is rooted in respect for diverse faiths, traditions, and communities. In these stirring pilgrimages and acts of humble service, President Droupadi Murmu stands as a living bridge between ancient paths and modern ethos, an emblem of service, sanctity, and courage.
