Well ahead of the June 22 Bhagwan Murugan Conference in Madurai, expected to draw over 5 lakh devotees from Bharat and abroad, people have already begun gathering in Madurai city with devotion and determination to attend without fail.
However, the DMK government, its police machinery, and its allies are continuing their anti-conference efforts — protesting, denying permissions, and raising last-minute issues, effectively forcing the organisers to approach the courts for each and every stage of the event. These moves, as BJP leader Annamalai noted, have inadvertently provided free publicity to the event.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, cine stars, leaders of major political parties, and industrialists are expected to attend this conference.
In a bid to disrupt this mega event, DMK-backed proxy protests are taking place nearly every day. Some observers believe that the sudden revival of the Keezhadi issue and the flare-up of the family feud between Kalanidhi Maran and his sibling Dayanidhi Maran over Sun TV affairs are nothing more than attempts to divert attention from the upcoming Bhagwan Murugan Conference.
Critics allege that these are diversionary tactics aimed at undermining the Bhagwan Murugan Conference, which is already attracting large numbers of devotees ahead of the Sunday event. The DMK and its allies have not only protested but also denied permissions for the conference and the miniature exhibition of the six abodes of Lord Murugan. When the matter was taken to court, Hindu Munnani highlighted the highly impractical conditions imposed by authorities as prerequisites for approval.
Makkal Adhikaram, a Naxal-affiliated outfit previously involved in the closure of the Thoothukudi Sterlite copper smelter unit, is reportedly spearheading the protests. They have submitted petitions to the District Magistrate and other officials, in addition to distributing handbills containing baseless accusations.
The Organiser team is in possession of these handbills, sourced from known channels.

The Naxal outfit claims: “In the past, they took up the Mandaikadu conversion issue, portraying Muslims as extremists and terrorists. Now, they are trying to stoke communal tensions. Crores of rupees are being spent by the BJP, RSS, Hindu Munnani, and other dominant caste organisations to sow the seeds of communal violence in Tamil Nadu. Their aim is to destroy ideologies like self-respect, anti-caste discrimination, atheism, secularism, and diversity. It is a grand conspiracy to enslave people under Brahminical and casteist forces.”
Tamil Nadu HR & CE Minister P.K. Sekar Babu questioned the participation of UP CM Yogi Adityanath and AP Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan in this event. He asked, “What is the connection between Yogi Adityanath, Pawan Kalyan, and Tamil Nadu?”
Responding strongly, TN BJP President Nainar Nagendran said, “Pawan Kalyan is a devotee of Bhagwan Murugan and has already visited all six abodes of the deity. Yogi Adityanath is a sadhu and head of the Gorakhpur mutt, which was established by Siddhar Korakkar from Tamil Nadu. Is Sekar Babu against people from Andhra Pradesh visiting Murugan temples in Tamil Nadu?”
Critics questioned Sekar Babu’s moral authority, saying, “He has no locus standi to raise such concerns, especially after attending the ‘Anti-Sanatana Conference’ in Chennai and a Christian conclave, where he chanted ‘Hallelujah’ thrice. Why did the TN government organise a Universal Conference in Palani last year? Who were its participants? Why are the DMK and its allies afraid of the Murugan conference? Are they losing sleep over the prospect of Hindus uniting under one umbrella?”
Nainar added, “This is not a political event, as the DMK imagines. It is a spiritual conference for devotees of Bhagwan Murugan. People from across political parties are welcome.”
Speaking to the media in Vadapalani on June 19, Nainar Nagendran said, “The DMK is levelling baseless allegations against the BJP out of fear of losing the 2026 Assembly elections. We are only speaking about Bhagwan Murugan. It is Sekar Babu who keeps invoking communal concerns and religion.”
VCK President Thol. Thirumavalavan accused the Sangh of using the names of Hindu deities to disturb social harmony across various states. He said they are now experimenting with the Murugan devotees’ conference.
“But the people of Tamil Nadu will not fall for such propaganda,” he asserted.
DMK and it’s allies are anti-Hindu.
All Hindus who vote for them are also anti-Hindus. Politics is different but they are hell-bent to wipe out Sanatana Dharma by coming to power using Hindu votes.— Tathvam-asi (@ssaratht) June 20, 2025
Earlier, Thirumavalavan took part in a human chain protest on the evening of June 19 in Madurai, organised by the Religious Harmony People’s Federation. The protest — backed by Leftist, Islamic, and human rights organisations — opposed the Murugan conference.
Interestingly, Thirumavalavan visited the Thiruparankundram temple and wore sacred ash on his forehead. However, upon exiting the temple, he was seen wiping it off with a cloth — a move critics say was done to “prove” his secular credentials.

Critics noted: “Thirumavalavan proudly wears a skull cap, but when it comes to Hindu religious symbols, he postures as a secularist. He needs Hindu votes, so he’ll continue visiting temples and posing with religious symbols — just until the Assembly elections. But in his heart, he is aligned with Christianity and Islamic ideologies.”
Previously, such critics had even questioned whether Bhagwan Murugan was a mythological figure or a Tamil deity at all, claiming he was imported from the North like Ram or Ganapati. Now, the same circles accuse Hindu organisations of hijacking Murugan’s name for political gain — thereby indirectly acknowledging that he is, in fact, a Tamil deity, for which ample evidence exists.
