Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Bhubaneswar on Friday, June 20, to celebrate the completion of one year of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Odisha. The highlight of his visit will be a massive public meeting at Janata Maidan, where the Prime Minister will address the people of the state and unveil a series of development initiatives aimed at enhancing Odisha’s infrastructure and growth trajectory.

This state-level celebration marks a significant milestone in Odisha’s political landscape, as the BJP completes its first year in power following a decisive victory in the 2024 Assembly elections. The event is expected to attract a crowd of over 200,000 people, and extensive preparations have been made to ensure its smooth execution.

Grand Inaugurations and Key Announcements

In a major push towards the state’s holistic development, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple infrastructure and welfare projects worth over ₹18,600 crore. These initiatives will focus on critical sectors such as drinking water supply, irrigation, agriculture, health infrastructure, rural connectivity, national highway development, and rail transport.

A key highlight of the visit will be the extension of rail connectivity to Boudh district for the first time. The Prime Minister will flag off new train services, marking a historic moment in the integration of this remote district with the national railway network.

As part of the Centre’s ongoing commitment to clean and sustainable transport, the Prime Minister will also launch 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) initiative. These e-buses will significantly enhance Bhubaneswar’s public transport system while contributing to environmental conservation.

Vision 2047: Shaping Odisha’s Future

PM Modi will also unveil the ambitious Odisha Vision Document, which outlines a long-term development roadmap for the state. This vision plan is anchored around two landmark milestones—2036, when Odisha will celebrate 100 years as India’s first linguistically organised state, and 2047, marking 100 years of India’s independence. The document aims to establish a bold, inclusive, and future-ready strategy for sustained growth and equitable development across Odisha.

Honouring Odia Heritage and Empowering Women

In a bid to promote Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, the Prime Minister will launch the ‘Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana’, an initiative designed to transform the birthplaces of legendary Odia personalities into vibrant cultural heritage hubs. Through museums, interpretation centres, statues, libraries, and public spaces, this scheme seeks to honour Odisha’s historical contributions while fostering cultural tourism.

Further celebrating grassroots empowerment, the event will feature a special recognition of women achievers, particularly acknowledging the accomplishments of over 16.5 lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’—women who have emerged as symbols of financial independence and self-reliance across the state.

CM Conducts Final Review at Janata Maidan

Ahead of the mega event, Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi conducted a comprehensive inspection of preparations at Janata Maidan on Thursday. He directed officials to ensure flawless arrangements and complete all tasks by Thursday evening. The Chief Minister was accompanied by senior ministers and BJP functionaries, including PWD and Law Minister Shri Prithviraj Harichandan, State BJP President Shri Manmohan Samal, State In-Charge Shri Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, and Co-In-Charge Ms. Lata Usendi.

Top bureaucrats, including Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner Smt. Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Shri Satyabrata Sahu, and DGP Shri Y.B. Khurania, were also present during the review.

Massive Security and Traffic Arrangements in Place

To manage the large-scale public gathering and ensure the Prime Minister’s security, 133 platoons of police force will be deployed across Bhubaneswar. The Commissionerate Police, in coordination with the Special Protection Group (SPG), has established elaborate security arrangements for the Prime Minister’s roadshow and public meeting.

According to Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, over 16 DCP-ranked officers, 33 Additional DCPs, 93 ACPs, and hundreds of inspectors and sub-inspectors will be stationed throughout the city. Around 25 platoons will specifically be tasked with route lining during the Prime Minister’s roadshow from Biju Patnaik International Airport to Janata Maidan.

Authorities have also issued a detailed traffic advisory. Key junctions, such as AG Square, Capital Hospital Square, Power House Square, Shastri Nagar, Behera Sahi, Xavier Square, and Nalco Square, are expected to experience significant congestion between 3 PM and 6 PM. Several lanes and bylanes will be temporarily closed, and diversions will be in effect to facilitate the roadshow.

Emergency vehicles, including ambulances and fire services, will be allowed to operate without restrictions. Designated parking areas for buses and private vehicles have been established, and goods carriers with six or more wheels will be diverted to prevent traffic bottlenecks.

Half-Day Holiday Announced in Bhubaneswar

To minimise disruptions and ensure public safety, the Odisha government has declared a half-day holiday on June 20 for all government offices and magisterial courts within the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation limits. This decision was made in light of the anticipated turnout and traffic restrictions during the high-profile visit.

Officials have also made contingency arrangements for dewatering in case of rainfall. Pumps and drainage systems are on standby at Janata Maidan to prevent waterlogging.
