Ram Mandir Ayodhya: Historic tribute to heroes of temple movement; major structures to be named after key figures

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust will name key structures within the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya after stalwarts of the Ram Mandir movement. This initiative aims to immortalise their contributions and inspire future generations by embedding the legacy of faith, sacrifice, and struggle into the temple’s sacred architecture

The Mahapurush of the historic Ram Mandir movement are set to receive eternal recognition. Major buildings in the Ram Janmabhoomi complex in Ayodhya will be named after prominent leaders who played crucial roles in the Ram Mandir agitation. Structures such as cultural centers, guest houses, and major facilities within the temple premises will bear their names, symbolizing their contributions to the cause.

Where faith, struggle, and determination converge, a new initiative is bringing history to life. The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has taken a significant decision to honor the stalwarts of the temple movement by naming the key structures inside the temple premises after them.

In the trust’s meeting held on March 7, 2025, it was resolved that the great leaders of the Ram Mandir agitation would be given a permanent tribute through this initiative. The naming will include the major auditorium being built, along with pilgrimage facilities and service centers within the premises. The trustees have approved the proposal for this historic naming ceremony.

Additionally, the Ram Mandir will have four grand entrance gates, which will be named after revered Jagadgurus—a decision that was taken in an earlier meeting of the Trust. These initiatives are designed not just to commemorate the past but to inspire future generations.

Speaking on the development, Mahant Ramsharan Das said that this emotional decision will not only honor the symbols of the movement but will also serve as a constant source of inspiration for the future. For devotees, the Ram Mandir complex will no longer be just a site of worship, but a vibrant reminder of the struggle, sacrifice, and victorious determination that brought it to life. The memories of the heroes of the temple movement will remain indelible through this initiative.

A Symbol of Social Harmony: Nritya Gopal Das

On the occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust President Mahant Nritya Gopal Das offered his prayers to Ramlala and the Ram Darbar. He was unable to attend the Pran Pratishtha ceremony held on June 5. Expressing satisfaction, he remarked that the penance of devotees is now bearing fruit and that Shri Ram’s temple has become a symbol of social unity, weaving the fabric of society into a single thread. Mahant Nritya Gopal Das also visited Sapt Mandapam and other temples within the complex.

Structures to be named after temple movement leaders

The southern side of the Ram Janmabhoomi premises is witnessing the construction of a large auditorium with a capacity of 500 people. This hall will be named after Ashok Singhal, president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and the chief advisor of the Ram mandir movement who ignited the flame of mass awakening for the cause of Ram Mandir. The construction of this auditorium is expected to be completed by April 2026.

In addition to the auditorium, a major Pilgrim Facility Center is being constructed within the Ram Mandir complex. The entrance gate of this facility will be named after Baba Abhiram Das, the person credited with placing the idol of Ramlala inside the structure during the historic night of December 22-23, 1949. This event is often cited as a turning point in the movement for the Ram Mandir.

Another prominent structure within the complex is the Pilgrim Facility Building, which will be known as Mahant Avaidyanath Pilgrim Facility Center. Situated along the path leading to Ramlala’s sanctum, this building honors Mahant Avaidyanath, a significant contributor to the Ram Mandir agitation and the guru of current Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Further, the Pilgrim Service Center, located on the Ram Janmabhoomi Darshan Path, will be named after Ramchandra Das Paramhans, one of the greatest leaders of the Ram Mandir movement. He was the first president of the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas. It was under his leadership that the foundation stone of the Ram Mandir was laid on November 9, 1989.

Where faith, struggle, and resolution intersect, history is now being immortalised. This historical step by the Trust will ensure that visitors to the temple will not only engage in worship but will also be reminded of the valiant struggle that led to the temple’s construction.

A Historic Move to Immortalise the Movement

Ayodhya, often called Ramnagari, has the waves of the Sarayu River flowing on one side and an ever-growing sea of faith on the other. Amidst this spiritual fervor, the Ram Mandir Trust is set to create another chapter in history through this naming initiative. It’s not just about naming buildings; it’s about connecting every visitor to the story of sacrifice, struggle, and unwavering resolve that finally culminated in the construction of Shri Ram’s grand temple.

The Trust believes that this step will bring the story of the Ram Mandir movement to the common people and will serve as a bridge between the present and the future. The younger generations will not only remember these names but will also learn about their immense contributions to the realisation of the Ram Mandir dream. The naming is thus seen as a true tribute to the heroes who dedicated their lives to the cause.

Four Key Figures Honored

As part of the tribute, four key figures associated with the Ram Mandir movement will be honored:

  • Ashok Singhal – Auditorium to be named after the VHP leader who led mass awakening efforts.
  • Baba Abhiram Das – Pilgrim Facility Center entrance gate to bear his name; credited with placing Ramlala’s idol in 1949.
  • Mahant Avaidyanath – Pilgrim Facility Building on the Ramlala route to be named after him; spiritual mentor to CM Yogi Adityanath.
  • Ramchandra Das Paramhans – Pilgrim Service Center on the Darshan Path to be named after him; first president of Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas and key leader in the temple’s foundation laying.

With rapid progress being made in the construction of the grand temple complex, these decisions mark a deep commitment to preserving and sharing the legacy of the Ram Mandir movement with future generations.
