The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)  issued fresh summons to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. Taraka Rama Rao (KTR), directing him to appear for questioning on Monday, June 16. The summons relate to the alleged Rs. 55 crore Formula E scam involving irregular fund transfers from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to race organisers.

This follows a formal investigation launched by the Congress-led Telangana government into financial irregularities during the Hyderabad Formula E race held in February 2023. The case, approved by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma in December last year, accuses KTR and senior officials of misusing public funds during the previous BRS regime.

According to the allegations, former MAUD secretary Arvind Kumar had authorised the fund transfer on the oral instructions of KTR, without seeking necessary administrative or financial approvals — a clear violation of financial norms. A second agreement, signed in October 2023 to organise another race in February 2024, also bypassed the Election Commission and Finance Department approvals, allegedly breaching the Model Code of Conduct.

Reacting strongly to the notice, KTR launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of using the probe as a distraction from his governance failures.

In a sharp statement, KTR said: “When you cannot run a government, keep people busy with a circus and distractions! Congress and its clown CM’s antics won’t deter us I have been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to appear for ‘investigation’ on Monday at 10am, in Formula-E case where ₹ 44 crore was transferred from Bank to Bank and the money is very much in the Account of FE As a law-abiding citizen, I will attend and fully cooperate with the ACB officials! ”

In December 2024, the Supreme Court dismissed the Special Leave Petition filed by K.T. Rama Rao seeking to quash the case registered by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in connection with the Formula E car race. Prior to this, the Telangana High Court had refused to entertain KTR’s plea, prompting him to move the Supreme Court on December 8.
