Bengaluru: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has officially begun its probe into the tragic stampede incident near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which claimed 11 lives during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations on June 4.
The investigation is being led by CID Superintendent of Police (SP) Shubhanwita, with DYSPs Gautham and Purushottam appointed as the investigating officers. The case file, initially registered by the Cubbon Park Police, has already been handed over to the CID for further action.
On June 6, the CID team visited the incident site to conduct a thorough inspection of the area where the stampede occurred. Key focus areas include gate numbers 7, 16, 18, 19, and 21 — the points around which the massive crowd had gathered and the fatal stampede reportedly took place.
Following the site inspection, the CID is likely to initiate the process of taking the accused into custody for further interrogation. Four individuals have already been arrested in connection with the case, and officials said that they are preparing to seek police custody of the accused on Monday through a body warrant. Since Saturday is a government holiday and Sunday is a court holiday, the move is expected early next week.
The stampede unfolded during a celebratory parade organized by RCB after their remarkable IPL campaign. Thousands of fans had gathered near the stadium and around Vidhana Soudha to witness the procession. However, overcrowding and mismanagement allegedly led to a dangerous situation, triggering a stampede that killed 11 and injured many others.
Public outrage and judicial action
The incident sparked widespread public outrage, with citizens and opposition leaders blaming the government for poor crowd control and lack of preventive measures. The tragedy also prompted the Karnataka High Court to take suo motu cognizance of the incident, indicating the gravity of the administrative lapses.
The state government, under pressure, suspended three top IPS officers — including Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayanand — a move that has since stirred a fresh political controversy and awaits review by the central government.
As the CID investigation gains pace, further developments are expected in the coming days, particularly regarding accountability and measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

against all those responsible, including members of the RCB management, the event management firm DNA Entertainment Networks, and KSCA officials.
The resignation of the KSCA Secretary and Treasurer appears to be a direct consequence of the tightening investigation and the political and public backlash following the stampede. Sources suggest that the resignations were made to avoid further damage to the institution’s image as the CID probe gathers momentum.
The KSCA, along with RCB and DNA became scenes of chaos, resulting in the death of 11 fans and injuries to several others.Entertainment, had organized the victory parade that led to an uncontrollable crowd surge near the gates of the stadium. The gates identified as choke points — numbered 7, 16, 18, 19, and 21.
Magistrate begins probe
As public outrage grows, the Karnataka government has directed a district-level investigation under the leadership of the Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner B Jagadish , who has already initiated a fact-finding mission.
According to official sources, the DC has collected detailed information from four major hospitals in the city—Bowring Hospital, Fortis Hospital, Manipal Hospital, and Vydehi Hospital—where the injured were admitted following the tragic incident that occurred during RCB’s IPL victory celebration on June 4.
