Former External Affairs Minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid has supported the Modi government’s decision to abrogate Article 370, which gave special powers to Jammu and Kashmir.
Salman Khurshid, who is a member of the all-party delegation visiting foreign countries from India in connection with Operation Sindoor, made the comments while talking to high-level officials in Indonesia.
He said there was a serious problem in Kashmir for a long time and there was a perception in the region that they were separate from the rest of the country. This sentiment, he noted, was reflected in the central government’s deliberations on Article 370 of the Constitution. With the abrogation of that article, the problem was resolved.

Khurshid stated that Kashmir has been on the path of progress since the abrogation of Article 370. He said an elected government has been formed in the state and 65 percent of the people exercised their right to vote in the last elections.
Salman Khurshid arrived in Indonesia with a multi-party delegation led by Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha. The delegation includes BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, Pradan Barua, Hemang Joshi, Trinamool Congress’s Abhishek Banerjee, CPM’s John Brittas and former Indian ambassador Mohan Kumar.
Earlier, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had supported the government during a visit to Panama as part of the Operation Sindoor delegation, but faced criticism from within the party. It remains to be seen how the Congress leadership will respond to Khurshid’s remarks.
