In a significant breakthrough following the nationwide Operation Sindoor, security agencies have arrested a Rajasthan government employee on charges of espionage for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The suspect, identified as Shakur Khan Manganiyar, was taken into custody by a joint team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and central intelligence operatives from his office in the border town of Jaisalmer.
Shakur Khan, a clerk serving in the state’s Employment Department, hails from Dhani in Baroda village, situated close to the India-Pakistan border. His arrest comes amid a sweeping crackdown targeting suspected espionage networks operating across the country.
Preliminary investigations have uncovered disturbing links, including his alleged communication with officials at the Pakistani High Commission. Authorities also found numerous Pakistani contact numbers—beginning with the international dialling code +92—stored on his phone, for which he reportedly failed to provide a plausible explanation.
Security personnel revealed that Shakur Khan had been under surveillance prior to his arrest. During initial questioning, he admitted to having made at least seven visits to Pakistan over the past few years. These frequent cross-border trips, combined with digital evidence retrieved from his personal devices, raised red flags among intelligence agencies.
Sources indicate that Shakur Khan has since been transported to Jaipur, where he is undergoing extensive interrogation. A joint team comprising various intelligence and security agencies is spearheading the probe to assess the extent of the information compromised and to identify any possible collaborators.
The arrest is part of a broader effort to dismantle covert networks allegedly operating under the directive of Pakistan’s ISI. Operation Sindoor, conducted from May 7 to 10, marked the beginning of an intensified push to neutralize espionage threats to national security. Officials stress that the investigation is ongoing and further arrests have not been ruled out.
