Raipur: Chhattisgarh deputy Chief Minister on April 2 clarified that while the state government is ready to engage with the Maoists for discussion, the talks should be without any condition.

Speaking to media persons in the state capital Raipur on Wednesday, Sharma said, “In the letter, they (referring to naxal leaders) stated about declaring a ceasefire. But there is no war-like situation, so how is it possible to have a discussion using such terminology? Be it central or the state government, no one wanted to fire a single bullet, and this is why our rehabilitation policy has been implemented.”

The dy CM reply comes hours after a purported letter issued in the name of proscribed CPI (Maoist) Central Committee (CC) reached the journalist and the state government on Wednesday. In the letter issued in Telugu, the Maoist’s CC has reportedly expressed about peace talk and ceasefire.

Replying to the alleged proposal,  Sharma said that neither the state government nor the government at centre want to fire a single bullet, but how discussion would be possible using terminology ‘ceasefire’ as there is no war-like situation in the state.

The dy CM further highlighted that the letter was received just ahead of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah visit to the state and important. He said that the state government will bring it to the attention of the Union Minister.

Sharma further stressed that the government is making efforts to provide benefits of surrender and rehabilitation policy to the surrendered Naxals and to organize their lives.

“We are ready for talks, I have said it before as well but it should not be based on any conditions. They should appoint or send someone for talks but it doesn’t mean that the government or the security forces are going to stop, this should be clear,” said the dy CM.

He added that the government is ready for the dialogue with everyone who believe in the democratic process and the freedom of citizens. He noted that the government is committed to bring development in every village of Bastar and whatever comes in the way will be dealt strictly.
