Bijapur: In a notable development, security forces arrested 13 lower-rung members of the banned Maoist outfit in insurgency-prone Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on March 31.
The arrested members of the proscribed group were involved in carrying out various unlawful activities including planting of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and incidents related to civilian killing.
According to the details, 7 of the arrested cadres were involved in IED explosions in Usur while the rest of the members were reportedly involved in murders of civilian in Basaguda area. The arrested cadres were members of several frontal groups of the outlawed CPI-Maoist.
They were nabbed during a counter-insurgency campaign launched by the security forces. The security team also recovered explosive materials from the possession of the accused.
All the accused were subsequently presented before a court from where they have been remanded in judicial custody. One of the arrested men was said to be carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head.

In a related development, a hardcore Maoist carrying a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on his head was nabbed from Maharashtra, said police on Monday.
The accused Rajesh Yadav was involved in various crimes and facing serious charges in multiple cases filed against him in Bihar’s Gaya district. Yadav, a resident of Gaya district was reported to be on the run for 11 years who was eventually nabbed on the basis of intel received by the police.
Yadav was arrested from Maharashtra’s Raigad district in a joint operation of the Special Task Force (STF) and Bihar Police on Saturday following which he was brought to Gaya. He was involved in various unlawful activities and facing charges under the UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) as well. He was currently being interrogated by the police.
