Chaibasa: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Sub-Inspector was injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Jaraikela area of Chaibasa in Jharkhand, police said on March 18.

“The condition of the injured sub-inspector is stable, and he is being airlifted to Ranchi for treatment,” police said.

Chaibasa Police said that the blast took place after an encounter with Maoists during a joint operation of police and the CRPF.

According to the details shared by the police, an encounter broke out between the Maoists and the joint team near forests of Radha Poda on Tuesday morning. Sensing upper hand of the security personnel the extremists however soon fledged the scene taking advantage of the forests.

Earlier a joint team also recovered and destroyed two IEDs weighing 4kg each during another operation launched by a joint team of CRPF, Chaibasa police and Jharkhand Jaguar, a specialised counter insurgency unit of the police.

“The explosives were destroyed through a controlled blast as per standard operating procedure (SOP),” said Police.

The operation was launched in the forest area of Hathiburu and lowadih under the jurisdiction of Tonto police station. The security team also recovered other naxal related materials from the spot.

It is worth knowing here that the security forces have been launching persistent operations in the Saranda/Kolhan area, a stronghold of Maoists as many of the top cadres of the proscribed group in Jharkhand such as Misir Besra, Ajay Mahto, Mochu Anal, Anmol and others are believed to be taken shelter in the said region.

The region is considered prone to IED explosions and as many as three personnel of CRPF had also sustained injuries in a similar blast occurred during a combing operation in March this year.
