On March 9, India secured a thrilling victory against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy, marking a historic moment for the nation. As celebrations and gatherings were happening across the country, people took to the streets, bursting crackers and playing music. However, in Indore’s Mhow area, these celebrations turned violent when an Islamist mob launched a brutal attack on the celebrations, pelting stones and hurling petrol bombs while chanting ‘Nara-e-Takbeer.’
Organiser accessed the First Information Report (FIR) of the incident, which reveals chilling details about the attack. The FIR states that the attackers had pre-planned the attack and even issued death threats to Hindus.
Eyewitnesses recounted harrowing moments where the assailants mocked victims, daring them to call upon “Bhagwan Ram” for protection. A Hindu temple in the colony was also attacked during the violence.
According to FIR 137/2025, registered at the Mhow Police Station in Indore district on March 10, the complainant—a bus driver—stated that members of the Muslim community confronted the celebrants with vulgar and obscene abuses.
The mob declared, “We had already planned for this. You people will shout and celebrate, and today we will teach you a lesson.” When the victims objected, the mob unleashed a premeditated attack using bricks and stones that had been stockpiled in advance.
Several celebrants sustained severe injuries. The complainant suffered a shoulder injury, while others sustained wounds on their legs, shoulders, and faces. In addition to the physical assault, the attackers vandalised and torched multiple vehicles, including bikes and buses. The FIR further details how the mob issued threats, warning, “You escaped today, but if you ever take out a procession again in front of us, we will kill you.”
Following the incident, the injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Based on the complaint, the accused were booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Sections 191(2), 190, 296, 115(2), 324(4), 351(2), and 61(2).
The named accused in the FIR include: Bablu, Tayyub, Golu, Ahmed Darbari, Pappu, Azhar Noor, Jamshad Rain
Abdul Rashid Qureshi alias Mala, Anees, Sheru, Lallu, Syed Nazeem, Imran, Afzal, Sohail, Rafiq and another individual named Imran.
Speaking to ANI, SP Indore Rupesh Kumar Dwivedi confirmed, “One FIR was registered last night with 17 persons named in it. A few complainants have come to the police station now, and they are being heard. We have taken into custody 12 people. Our priority is to ensure that the situation remains peaceful and normal. Force is deployed adequately across vulnerable points. The representatives from all communities condemned the incident.”
Videos circulating on social media confirm that the mob shouted ‘Nara-e-Takbeer’ and ‘Allahu Akbar’ before launching their attack. Reports indicate extensive stone pelting and arson, with many vehicles and shops being vandalised. The attack began when the procession passed a mosque.
CCTV footage from the scene shows a large group of Muslim men covering their faces and wielding sticks while simultaneously picking up stones and attacking the rally participants. Several attackers were seen vandalising parked vehicles before setting them ablaze.
According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, the violence erupted after Hindus in the victory procession chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram,’ allegedly provoking an attack by Muslims near the Jama Masjid. Hindu residents of Mhow reported that their houses in Muslim-dominated Patti Bazaar were specifically targeted, with stones hurled at their homes and their vehicles destroyed.
“Where is your Bhagwan Ram now? Call your Ram to save your houses,” an elderly woman and her granddaughter recalled the chilling taunts hurled by the mob that attacked their home, on the fateful night.
The locals added that even after the police controlled the situation, they were not able to sleep for the rest of the night.
In a shocking revelation, the Imam of Jama Masjid admitted that Muslims initiated the violence and attempted to lynch Hindus who were chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ during the celebration. The Imam justified the attack, questioning how the procession was allowed to pass through a Muslim-majority area and insinuating that such processions should be restricted to avoid communal clashes.
