UP: CM Yogi’s bold road safety push; Hospitals on expressways, Liquor ban near highways & crackdown on illegal vehicles

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a major step to enhance road safety by introducing a new plan for expressways in the Uttar Pradesh state. In a significant decision, CM Yogi has directed the construction of hospitals similar to food plazas on both sides of all expressways.

The aim is to provide immediate medical assistance to the people who are injured in road accidents, ensuring that timely treatment is available to save lives. This directive was issued during a high-level meeting of the Road Safety Council, held at the CM’s official residence. The meeting focused on various measures to improve road safety, prevent accidents, and strengthen medical emergency response systems.

Road accidents are a major concern in India, and Uttar Pradesh, being one of the largest states, witnesses a high number of accidents every year. A lack of immediate medical facilities near accident-prone areas often results in fatalities that could have been prevented with timely intervention. Understanding this pressing issue, CM Yogi has taken a proactive approach by instructing authorities to set up hospitals along expressways, similar to how food plazas are structured. These hospitals will ensure that accident victims receive first aid and advanced medical treatment without unnecessary delays.

In addition to these hospitals, the Chief Minister has also ordered the establishment of trauma centers in divisional hospitals. These trauma centers will be equipped with specialized medical facilities and trained staff to handle critical cases effectively. The move aims to significantly reduce the mortality rate due to road accidents and provide a robust emergency medical response system across the state.

To further enhance road safety and emergency response, CM Yogi has instructed authorities to deploy more ambulances, cranes, and patrolling vehicles on expressways and highways. This will ensure quick medical assistance and facilitate the swift clearance of accident sites, preventing traffic congestion and secondary accidents. Additionally, the state government is working on increasing the number of surveillance cameras on National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) roads across Uttar Pradesh. These cameras will help monitor traffic violations, detect overspeeding vehicles, and identify accident-prone areas for necessary safety improvements.

Another important directive issued by CM Yogi pertains to liquor shops along highways and expressways. The Chief Minister has emphasized that there should be no liquor shops on the sides of expressways and highways. He has also ordered that the signboards of existing liquor shops should be made smaller to reduce their visibility. The presence of liquor shops near highways has often been linked to drunk driving incidents, leading to fatal accidents. By enforcing strict regulations on liquor sales near highways, the state government aims to curb such accidents and promote responsible driving behavior.

CM Yogi has also taken a strong stand against illegal vehicles and overloaded trucks operating in the state. He has directed transport authorities to take strict action against buses running without permits and to stop vehicles without valid permits coming from other states at the borders. Overloaded trucks pose a serious threat to road safety, often leading to severe accidents and damage to road infrastructure. By establishing proper communication with the Transport Association and Vehicle Association, the government aims to enforce the rule that long-distance vehicles must have two drivers to reduce the chances of fatigue-related accidents.

To make roads safer for pedestrians and commuters, CM Yogi has emphasised the importance of road safety signage on all major roads in the state. Authorities have been instructed to install necessary sign boards related to speed limits, accident-prone zones, and emergency contact numbers. Additionally, foot overbridges will be constructed at identified locations to facilitate safe pedestrian crossings and reduce the risk of accidents.

CM Yogi’s comprehensive road safety plan is expected to bring about significant improvements in Uttar Pradesh’s traffic management system. By setting up hospitals along expressways, increasing the number of ambulances and patrol vehicles, and enforcing strict traffic regulations, the state government aims to create a safer road environment for commuters. The ban on liquor shops near highways and the crackdown on illegal vehicles will further strengthen road safety measures and reduce the occurrence of fatal accidents.

The Chief Minister’s proactive approach underscores his commitment to making Uttar Pradesh’s roads safer and more efficient. These measures, if implemented effectively, will set a benchmark for other states to follow and contribute to the overall reduction of road accident fatalities in India.

CM Yogi Adityanath’s new instructions for expressways in Uttar Pradesh reflect a bold and visionary approach towards road safety. The establishment of hospitals on expressways, enhanced emergency response mechanisms, and strict regulations on liquor sales and illegal vehicles are crucial steps toward minimising road accidents. With these initiatives, the Uttar Pradesh government is not only improving the state’s infrastructure but also prioritizing the safety and well-being of its citizens. If executed successfully, this plan has the potential to transform the state’s road safety landscape and save countless lives in the future.
