India secured the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title with a thrilling four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the final held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 9, 2025. Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front, scoring a vital 76 runs, guiding India to successfully chase down New Zealand’s target of 252 runs with one over to spare.

However, what should have been a night of national jubilation turned bitter in Telangana, as police intervened to halt celebrations in Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad, and the bustling streets of Karimnagar, disrupting the victory festivities.

Shockingly, instead of controlling the miscreants, the police chased down and stopped Indian cricket fans from celebrating their team’s triumph.

Union Minister Kishan Reddy expressed his disapproval on social media platform X, stating:

“This is how the Congress govt. in Telangana is not allowing India’s #ChampionsTrophy2025 win celebrations.”

Similarly, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay questioned the actions of the Telangana police and the stance of the state’s Home Minister, Revanth Reddy:

Can the Home Minister of Telangana Shri Revanth Reddy garu clarify – which country is Karimnagar police supporting?

We can’t celebrate India’s win, but a flexi with Pakistan’s name will be removed?

How does celebrating India’s victory become a “communal issue”? @TelanganaDGP… https://t.co/4Hpyid5ThM

“Can the Home Minister of Telangana, Shri Revanth Reddy garu, clarify which country Karimnagar police are supporting? We can’t celebrate India’s win, but a flexi with Pakistan’s name will be removed? How does celebrating India’s victory become a ‘communal issue’? @TelanganaDGP and DG Intelligence should answer why Telangana police are so eager to create law and order problems. Youth will give an appropriate answer to Congress for such high-handedness.”
