The gruesome murder of the Hindu girl came to light when locals discovered a decomposed body near a 60-foot bridge on the ghat road in Shevaroy Hills. Alarmed by the sight, they immediately informed the police, who sent the remains to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
Simultaneously, police received a missing person complaint from a private hostel in Salem, where Loganayagi was residing. She was missing since four days, prompting concerns from her hostel warden, who filed a complaint at the Pallapatti Police Station.
During the preliminary investigation, authorities identified the victim through an ID card found in her purse, which bore the name Loganayagi. However, the picture showed her wearing a burqa, raising further suspicions about possible religious conversion. Upon tracing her call records, police found that her last conversation was with Abdul Hafeez, leading them to arrest him in Trichy.
A Four-Year Deception: Grooming, Conversion, and Betrayal
After intense questioning, Abdul Hafeez confessed to having been in a relationship with Loganayagi for the past four years after meeting her on Instagram. He reportedly manipulated her into converting to Islam and promised her that he would marry her. Reports suggest that the Hindu girl fell into the trap of love jihad as she adopted the name Albiya post-conversion and even began wearing a burqa.
However, their relationship soured when Loganayagi discovered that Hafeez was simultaneously involved with another woman, Dhaviya Sultana, an IT professional. Feeling betrayed, she confronted Hafeez and asked him to get married to her. However, instead of fulfilling his promise, Hafeez, along with Dhaviya Sultana and their mutual friend Monisha, allegedly plotted to kill Loganayagi.

On March 1, 2025, the trio hired a driverless cab and traveled to Salem, where they convinced Loganayagi to accompany them. They took her to the secluded ghat road in Shevaroy Hills, where they allegedly injected her with poison, instantly killing her. Some reports suggest that they injected her with air, leading to an embolism and immediate death. To cover up their crime, they disposed of her body in a 20-foot gorge before fleeing back to Trichy.
Police reports indicate that Hafeez had fabricated a story to justify his crime. He told Monisha and Dhaviya Sultana that Loganayagi had allegedly murdered his brother after marriage by striking him with a glass bottle. Fueled by this deception, they agreed to aid him in the murder.

After piecing together call records, digital footprints, and confessions, police arrested Abdul Hafeez, Dhaviya Sultana, and Monisha on March 5, 2025. The trio was charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, and destruction of evidence.
A senior police officer stated, “This is not an isolated case. Love Jihad-related crimes have been increasing despite widespread awareness. The modus operandi remains the same—grooming young Hindu women, forcing conversion under the pretext of marriage, and eliminating them when they resist or demand commitment.”
Authorities and social observers have pointed out a disturbing pattern in which young women are lured into relationships by Islamist men using deceitful tactics, leading to religious conversions and, in many cases it results in their tragic end. In the past, similar cases of love jihad have seen women’s bodies chopped into pieces, stored in refrigerators, stuffed into suitcases, or disposed of in multiple locations to cover up the crime.
Reports indicate that perpetrators often present themselves as wealthy and stylish individuals, driving expensive vehicles, wearing branded accessories, and using social media platforms like Instagram to trap vulnerable women. Once a woman falls into their clutches, they are coerced into converting, blackmailed with intimate videos, or abandoned after being exploited.
Campus Friends of India (CFI), an offshoot of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), has been accused of actively operating such conversion rackets in colleges and universities, particularly targeting young and affluent women.
The brutal murder has ignited widespread outrage, with protests erupting across Tamil Nadu, demanding stricter laws against forced conversions and Love Jihad-related crimes. Many activists and political leaders have called for fast-track trials and exemplary punishments for the accused.
One activist remarked, “This is not just about one woman. This is a systemic issue where Hindu women are being targeted, manipulated, and ultimately eliminated. We demand stringent action and a nationwide law to curb such incidents.”
Following the shocking revelations, the Tamil Nadu government has assured swift justice. Authorities have promised a thorough investigation and strict punishment for the accused under relevant sections of the IPC, including Section 302 (murder), Section 120B (criminal conspiracy), and Section 201 (destruction of evidence). Additionally, the police are probing potential links between the accused and radical organizations.
The central government has also reiterated the need to monitor and curb forced religious conversions under the guise of relationships, hinting at possible legislative measures to prevent such crimes in the future.
