Ranchi: As many as three Central Reserve Police Force personnel, including one assistant commandant, were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa on Wednesday, March 5, police said.

The incident occurred during a counter-insurgency operation being conducted on Wednesday morning. The injured personnel were then evacuated and airlifted to the state capital Ranchi subsequently.

“Three CRPF jawans are injured in an IED blast in Chaibasa. Injured Jawans are being airlifted to Ranchi for medical treatment. More details are awaited,” said SP Chaibasa.

Notably a joint team of security forces on January 22 had neutralised two Maoists, one being an area commander in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district. Those killed in the encounter were both residents of Giridih district.

The operation was launched following the security officials received credible inputs about Maoist presence in the area. An AK-47 and two INSAS rifles were also recovered from the spot.

The deceased Maoists were identified as Shanti, an area commander from Chatro village under the Khukhra police station and Manoj from Dhavatar village under the Pirtand police station.

Continuous search operations are being carried out by the security personnel in Maoist affected areas of the state including West Singhbhum district, a hotbed of Maoist-insurgency.
