Bharatiya knowledge tradition should be revived, says J. Nandakumar

J. Nandakumar, National Samyojak of Prajnapravah, has called for the revival of the Bharatiya knowledge tradition. He was inaugurating the Kerala University unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Shaikshik Mahasangh, the organisation for teachers ranging from primary to university levels.

“Education should serve the interests of the country. We need an educational system to mould such teachers. After independence, we required an educational system centred around teachers, but that was neglected,” he said on February 28.

Nandakumar stated that the invaders who attacked this country were not merely seeking territorial conquest; they also led military campaigns to demolish our educational and spiritual-philosophical centres. “We are still following the history syllabus imposed upon us by colonial forces,” he remarked.

He further added that there are ongoing attempts to dismantle Bharatiya culture and replace it with cultural Marxism. “The tendency to insult and denounce our traditions and rituals is increasing. Even the Kumbh Mela is being criticised. Kerala is the only state that did not extend any hospitality to pilgrims who travelled to Prayagraj for Kumbh Mela,” he observed.

The senior RSS karyakarta noted that the call made by luminaries like Swami Dayananda during the Kumbh Mela of 1855 led to the First War of Independence in 1857.

Continuing his address, Nandakumar asserted that colonial forces poisoned our culture during their rule, and those distortions are still present in our education system. “We needed corrections in our education system in the early years of independence, but our rulers were unwilling to implement them. We must now revive the Bharatiya knowledge tradition. The New Education Policy (NEP) is a step in the right direction,” he said.

Kerala University Syndicate member Dr. Vinodkumar T.G. Nair chaired the event. Syndicate members P.S. Gopakumar, Dileepkumar, Prof. A. Unnikrishnan, Dr. C.V. Jayamani, and Dr. Mini Venugopal also spoke on the occasion.
