Mysuru: Mysore city was thrown into a state of tension after a controversial post related to BJP’s victory in Delhi sparked unrest in the Muslim-majority area of Udayagiri. The post, which showed photos of prominent political figures MP Rahul Gandhi, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal depicted them stripped naked, with a Muslim cap on their heads and Urdu words written on their bodies. This post quickly spread, causing widespread outrage,

The incident unfolded late on Monday night when the Muslim community in Udayagiri reacted strongly to the post. Thousands of people poured into the streets, expressing their anger and demanding immediate legal action against the person responsible. The protesters gathered in front of the Udayagiri police station, creating a volatile situation. They called for the immediate arrest of the individual who had posted the controversial images.

The police, understanding the gravity of the situation, responded by calling in additional forces to control the crowd. However, some miscreants in the crowd took the opportunity to start pelting stones at the police, escalating the tension further. Faced with the threat of violence, the police were forced to take action to restore order. The officers responded by using lathi charges and firing tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Despite efforts by community leaders to calm the situation, the protests intensified. The city’s security forces, including additional contingents from the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and the City Armed Reserve Force (CARF), were deployed to control the growing unrest. Eventually, the situation was brought under control, though the atmosphere remained highly charged.

The incident has led to a strong condemnation of the violence directed at the police. It is clear that the attack on law enforcement officials is not only an assault on the rule of law but also a direct challenge to public safety. The police are trained to maintain peace and order in times of crisis, and such acts of aggression undermine their ability to serve and protect the public. The stone pelting and the assault on officers who were simply performing their duty must be unequivocally condemned.

At present, the area around the Udayagiri police station remains on high alert, with senior police officials closely monitoring the situation. Authorities have heightened security measures across the Narasimharaja constituency, ensuring that further disturbances are prevented.

BJP severely condemned  miscreants  attacking police

Karnataka BJP has strongly condemned the acts of violence, including stone-pelting, that took place at the Udayagiri police station in Mysore during a protest late Monday night.

BJP has expressed its outrage over the attack on law enforcement officers and raised several pertinent questions regarding the incident. In a tweet, they questioned Karnataka’s Home Minister, Dr. G. Parameshwar, asking where 6 bags of  stones  came from and how a group of over 2,000 people managed to gather in front of the police station at such an odd hour 2 AM. BJP has further criticized the police response, asking why no action was taken to defend themselves, especially when the Deputy Commissioner of Police’s car was targeted by stone-pelters.

The BJP’s tweet also highlighted concerns over the seeming inaction from the police, questioning whether the authorities were aware of a pre-planned conspiracy orchestrated by fanatics. The party has gone on record to say that the events in Udayagiri were not spontaneous but carefully coordinated, raising alarms about the state of law and order under the current government.

JDS calls the attack an exhibition of Taliban culture

In addition to the BJP’s criticisms, the JD(S) has also weighed in on the situation. The party condemned the violence and criticised the Congress-led Karnataka government for allegedly favoring one community. JD(S) leaders called the actions of the mob as the “mentality of the Taliban,” pointing to the aggression towards police officers and the premeditated nature of the riots. They argued that while derogatory posts about various religions have been a common issue on social media, there is no justification for people to take matters into their own hands by attacking police stations and injuring officers.

The JD(S) has also demanded swift action from the state government, urging for the immediate arrest of those responsible for stone-pelting, and calling for a restoration of law and order in Mysore, which is known for its cultural significance. The party stressed that if such violence is left unchecked, it could set a dangerous precedent where people start taking law enforcement into their own hands, undermining public safety and peace.

Both parties are unified in their condemnation of the attack on police officers, who were simply carrying out their duty to maintain public order. The BJP and JD(S) have called on the state government to ensure that those responsible for the violence are held accountable and that the city of Mysore returns to a state of calm and respect for the law.

Pratap Simha condemns attack, calls it a ‘A Blow to Civil Society’

Former Member of Parliament Pratap Simha has strongly condemned the stone-pelting and attack on the Udayagiri Police Station, calling it an event that brings shame to civil society. Speaking in Mysore on Tuesday, Simha expressed outrage over the increasing attacks on law enforcement officers under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s second term.

He stated, “In Siddaramaiah’s second term, attacks on police officers have become a common occurrence. Yesterday, hooligan Muslims launched an assault. This is an incident that brings embarrassment to the entire civil society of Mysore. Police have always been targeted, and this trend continues. This violence is reminiscent of the disturbances caused by the Tipu Sultan faction. It is a clear example of the kind of governance Siddaramaiah’s administration provides.”

Simha further criticised the current government, stating, “This is not a government for Kannadigas, it’s a Taliban-style government. The police are behaving as if under orders from the criminals themselves. The hooligan Muslims are given a free pass under Siddaramaiah’s rule, which is why incidents like this are happening.”

He questioned why the Muslim community in Udayagiri was so upset after Arvind Kejriwal’s loss, adding, “Why should the Muslims in Udayagiri be so upset after Kejriwal’s defeat? Why should they cause unrest? The police must conduct combing operations in Udayagiri and educate the criminals. It is unclear how long Siddaramaiah will remain CM, but he must take firm action now.”
