Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Guwahati Police has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against prominent YouTubers and social media influencers, including Ranveer Allahbadia (popularly known as (BeerBiceps), for allegedly promoting obscenity and engaging in “sexually explicit and vulgar discussions” on a show titled *India’s Got Latent*. The move has ignited debates over content regulation and creative freedom in India’s digital space.
Details of the FIR and Charges
The FIR, registered by the Guwahati Crime Branch under Cyber Police Station Case No. 03/2025, names influencers such as Ashish Chanchlani (Ashish Chanchlani Vines), Jaspreet Singh (Technical Guruji), Apoorva Makhija (CarryMinati), Ranveer Allahbadia (BeerBiceps), and comedian Samay Raina, among others. The charges stem from content aired on “India’s Got Latent”, a web-based show accused of violating multiple laws, including:
Sections 79 and 95 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNS) 2023 (pertaining to obscenity and public nuisance).
Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (punishing publishing/transmitting obscene material electronically).
Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, and provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated the investigation aims to assess the “societal impact” of the show, which allegedly featured “vulgar dialogues and demeaning portrayals of women.” The Cyber Police are scrutinising the content’s compliance with digital ethics and legal frameworks.
Ranveer Allahbadia’s Involvement
Ranveer Allahbadia, a Mumbai-based influencer with over 8 million YouTube subscribers, is best known for his motivational content on fitness, entrepreneurship, and mental health. His inclusion in the FIR has raised eyebrows, given his reputation for advocating “self-improvement” and “positivity.” However, authorities claim his participation in “India’s Got Latent” included discussions that “crossed legal boundaries of decency.”
Allahbadia has yet to issue a public statement. Sources close to his team suggest they are “reviewing the charges” and may pursue legal recourse.
The Guwahati Police have summoned the creators for questioning, and forensic teams are analysing the show’s episodes. Meanwhile, platforms like YouTube and Instagram face pressure to clarify content moderation policies.
