New Delhi/Raipur: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday, February 9 lauded security forces for neutralising 31 Maoists in the deep forest area of Indravati National Park of Farsegarh in Bijapur district.

Home Minister Shah described the operations against the Maoists as a “big success” in the direction of making the country free from Maoist-insurgency.

“In the direction of making Bharat naxal-free, the security forces have achieved a big success in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. In this operation, 31 Naxalites were killed and a huge amount of arms and explosives were also recovered,” Shah wrote on X.

Union Minister Shah further expressed “heartfelt” condolences to the families of soldiers who lost their lives. “Today we have lost two of our brave soldiers in the effort to end anti-human Naxalism (Maoism). This country will always be indebted to these heroes. I express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred soldiers.” Shah said.

“I also reiterate my resolve that before 31 March 2026, we will completely eradicate Maoism from the country, so that no citizen of the country has to lose his life due to it,” he added.

Notably, two security personnel also lost their lives while two others sustained injuries during the gunfight. The injured security personnel admitted in Raipur Hospital are out of danger. They were airlifted to the hospital after suffering injuries at the encounter site.

Notably around 700 personnel of separate units of Chhattisgarh police and central forces were part of the offensive against the Maoists on Sunday, resulting in a major success for the security forces.

The operation was launched following inputs of Maoists presence in the area which led to a fierce gun battle on Sunday morning. A total of 31 Maoists including 11 female cadres were neutralised in the gunfight that lasted for several hours. Other than the Maoists gunned down in action, security forces have also recovered arms and ammunition in huge quantity from the site of encounter.
