Kishanganj: Security Forces are on alert after the arrest of a Bangladeshi national in bordering district of Kishanganj as initial interrogation of the arrested men led to the disclosure that seven of his accomplices indulged in cattle smuggling business have also entered the Bharatiya territory.

The arrested individual Saiful Islam, a resident of Sajlapur of Gamwanda district of Bangladesh recently entered the Bharatiya territory after a cattle smuggling gang facilitated his illegal entry. “He and his accomplices were in touch with a cattle smuggling racket which facilitated their entry into Bhartiya territory,” said police while quoting Saiful.

Upon entering Bharat, Saiful met with Mohammad Sattar who facilitated entry of Saiful and his accomplice by cutting fences near Bangladesh border at North Dinajpur of West Bengal.

According to the police, besides arranging accommodation for Saiful, Sattar also briefed him about the region’s geography before assigning him the task of cattle smuggling. Saiful was arrested while he was waiting for Sattar near Kalu Chowk of Kishanganj on Monday.

We are scrutinising the call details of the seized mobile phones of the arrested individual and the probe is on based on the findings. We are also verifying the claims made by him that seven of his accomplices had crossed the border, said a senior official of the police privy to the development.

During his stay time in Bharat, Saiful smuggled three cattle to Bangladesh, receiving an amount of over 15000 for the task. As of now, Sattar is reportedly on the run and efforts are on to nab him at earliest. The case is further being investigated by police.

Notably, cattle smuggling to Bangladesh has been a major concern for the security personnel, who also have been grappling with the challenge of illegal infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals in the Bharatiya territory. The two countries share a long and porous border, stretching over around 4000 kilometers.
