Bijapur: In yet another incident underscoring the grim reality of the Maoist affected areas, members of the banned Maoist outfit executed another civilian in violence-hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday January 26.
According to media reports, the tragic incident unfolded in Keshamundi village of Bijapur, where the extremists barged into the house of a civilian on late Sunday evening, executing him on alleged charges of espionage.
The Maoists dragged the man out of his house and subsequently hacked him to death with sharp edged weapons. The deceased civilian was identified as Bhadru Sodhi (41).
The ultras also dropped a handwritten note near the body of the deceased before fleeing the scene. The responsibility of the cold-blooded murder was claimed by the Bhairamgarh Area Committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist).
In the note traced near the body, the extremists have alleged Bhadru for passing sensitive information about the banned group to the police. They further have alleged the deceased villager for being part of the Salwa Judum movement.
The incident has occurred a week after the extremists murdered a 48-years-old villager in Hallur village under the Miratur police station limits of Bijapur on January 16.
The slain individual was identified as Sukku Hapka, who was reportedly abducted from his house and produced before a Jan Adalat, a self-styled court run by the extremist. Hapka was later strangled to death on similar charges of espionage.
A pamphlet alleging Sukka as an informer of the police was recovered from the spot in which the Bhairamgarh Area Committee had claimed responsibility of his murder.
Notably, more than 60 civilians were killed in targeted attacks carried out by Maoists in the violence-ridden areas of State in the year 2024. This comes despite intensified campaign by the security forces in affected areas of the State lately, resulting in notable successes for them.
Experts believe that the surge in civilian killings reflects the growing frustration of the outlawed group as it struggles to keep its dominance over the civilians of the remote areas amidst amplified operations by the forces.
