India will celebrate its 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025, with a grand parade showcasing military prowess, cultural diversity, and a tribute to the country's Constitution. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be the Chief Guest, and the event will feature vibrant performances, impressive military displays, and a flypast by 47 aircraft

India’s 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025, promises to be a grand celebration, reflecting the country’s journey since the adoption of its Constitution in 1950. This year’s celebrations will be a significant occasion, with the Republic Day Parade showcasing India’s military prowess, cultural diversity, and national pride. The festivities will be marked by a series of events, including the ceremonial march past at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, performances by thousands of cultural artists, and a flypast by the Indian Air Force.

Who Is the Chief Guest for Republic Day 2025?

The Chief Guest for the 76th Republic Day Parade is Prabowo Subianto, the President of the Republic of Indonesia. Subianto’s presence adds an international touch to the occasion, as India strengthens its ties with Indonesia, a key partner in Southeast Asia.

The Indonesian President will join a host of other dignitaries, including 10,000 special guests, who have been invited to witness the grand parade that will stretch from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate.

Republic Day Parade 2025: Key Timings and Schedule

The Republic Day Parade will commence at 10:30 AM on Sunday, January 26, 2025, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi beginning the day by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial, honoring the sacrifices made by India’s armed forces. The event will be a visual treat, with contingents from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Para Military Forces, NCC, and NSS marching proudly along the Kartavya Path. The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will arrive in a ceremonial buggy to oversee the march past.

  1. Gate Open Timing: 7:00 AM
  2. Gate Close Timing: 9:00 AM
  3. Parade Start Time: 10:30 AM

The parade will proceed from Vijay Chowk and pass through the grand Kartavya Path before concluding at the Red Fort. Along the way, 31 vibrant tableaux representing India’s diverse states and union territories will capture the imagination of the audience. These tableaus will highlight India’s growth, heritage, and achievements over the past 75 years since the Constitution’s enactment.

The theme of the tableaux this year is “स्वर्णिम भारत – विरासत और विकास” (Golden India: Heritage and Development), commemorating the country’s progress and celebrating the legacy of the Constitution.

Special Performances and Cultural Displays

In a first, 5,000 folk and tribal artists will perform live along the entire stretch of Kartavya Path, displaying more than 45 traditional folk and tribal art forms from across the country. The performances will include Indonesian art forms, strengthening the cultural ties between India and Indonesia. The parade will also feature 300 cultural artists showcasing various dance and musical performances that reflect India’s vast cultural diversity.

Additionally, 47 aircraft will participate in a thrilling flypast, demonstrating the Indian Air Force’s aerial capabilities and marking the grand finale of the Republic Day Parade.

Ticketing and Transportation Information

For those wishing to attend the parade in person, tickets can be purchased online via the Ministry of Defence’s Amantran Portal or offline at designated counters. In line with the government’s effort to make the event accessible, the Delhi Metro will offer free rides to all ticket holders, along with special shuttle services to the parade venue.

Traffic Advisory: Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory for the day. The C-Hexagon-India Gate stretch will be closed from 9:15 AM until the marchers pass Tilak Marg. From 10:30 AM, vehicles will not be allowed on Tilak Marg, BSZ Marg, and Subhash Marg, making it advisable for attendees to use public transportation.

Beating Retreat Ceremony: A Grand Finale

The Republic Day celebrations will conclude with the Beating Retreat ceremony on the evening of January 29, 2025, at Vijay Chowk. This ceremony marks the end of the Republic Day festivities and is an annual tradition that began in the 1950s. The Beating Retreat will feature a musical performance by the bands of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Delhi Police, and the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), honoring the valor and sacrifices of India’s armed forces.

Tickets for the Beating Retreat ceremony will be available for Rs 100 via the Amantran mobile app, the official website, and at physical counters in Delhi.

Interesting Facts About Republic Day

First Republic Day Parade: The first Republic Day Parade took place on January 26, 1950, at the Irwin Amphitheatre (now Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium). The parade was presided over by the first President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad.

The Beating Retreat Ceremony: The tradition of the Beating Retreat ceremony began in 1950 when it was first held during the state visit of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

Largest Republic Day Parade: Over the years, the Republic Day Parade has grown in grandeur. The parade features participation from a range of armed forces, police contingents, state officials, and cultural performers.

Flag Hoisting: The Republic Day festivities begin with the flag hoisting ceremony by the President of India, who is also the Chief Guest of the event. The flag hoisting is a significant moment symbolizing the sovereignty of the country.

International Guests: This year’s Chief Guest, Prabowo Subianto, will join the long list of distinguished leaders who have attended Republic Day celebrations in the past, including U.S. Presidents, British Prime Ministers, and other international dignitaries.

The Republic Day of 2025 not only marks the enactment of the Indian Constitution but also celebrates India’s transformation into a sovereign, democratic republic.
