‘Panch Parivartan’ has been called for with the aim of accelerating positive change in the society of Bharat and increasing the sense of discipline and patriotism in the society. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has been working continuously for the last Ninety-Nine years for positive change in the Bharat. At the All-India Coordination Meeting held in September-2024, the Sangh launched the ‘Panch Parivartan’ initiative, a five-fold transformation strategy to foster societal progress and national rejuvenation as the organisation approaches its centenary in 2025. These five changes are going to give direction to the Indian society in the next few years.
Social Harmony: Focused on increasing harmony and love between different sections of the society.
Family enlightenment: To promote the family as a unit that plays an important role in the development of the nation.
Environmental protection: Change in lifestyle for environmental protection by considering the earth as mother.
Swadeshi and self-reliance: Emphasis on the country’s indigenous economy and self-reliance.
Civic Duties: Discharge of social responsibilities of every citizen and contribution to the national interest.
The importance of these five important sectors for the youth of India can be understood across several interconnected dimensions. To improve the present condition of Bharat, the role of five transformative elements like social harmony, indigenous spirit, environmental protection, family enlightenment, and civic duty is very important. These elements not only strengthen the structure of the society and nation but also provide a strong foundation for the progress and development of the country. Let us discuss their roles in detail:
Social Harmony
Bharat’s cultural diversity, with its mosaic of languages, religions, and traditions, highlights the need for social harmony. Promoting this harmony helps the youth appreciate diversity, fostering mutual respect and understanding. Encouraging peaceful coexistence equips young people with conflict-resolution skills, reducing communal tensions and strengthening national unity. Additionally, engaged youth can lead community-building initiatives that create supportive environments benefiting everyone. The first condition for a healthy and strong state of the society is social harmony and mutual understanding among different sections of the society. This work cannot be completed merely by carrying out some indicative programmes. There should be friendship between individuals and families in all classes and levels of society. We all have to take this initiative at the individual and family level. Everyone should participate in each other’s festive events and they should become the festive events of the entire family. If such thoughts and actions continue to happen regularly, the society will become healthy and an environment of harmony will also be created.
Family enlightenment
Family is the foundation for values and ethics, nurturing responsible and empathetic individuals. It provides a crucial support system, offering emotional and financial stability essential for personal and educational development. Furthermore, parents and guardians act as role models, significantly influencing the youth’s choices, behaviour, and aspirations. Bharatiya culture emphasises respect, empathy, and interconnectedness. Practicing gratitude, humility, and mutual respect strengthens bonds with family, friends, and society. This process of making tomorrow’s citizens of Bharat in the family continues to work at its usual pace, but the attempt of Western countries to destroy the ‘family-centric’ Indian social structure and create an ‘individual-centred’ social structure continues from the British era till today. Due to the excessive influence of television, social media in the changing situation since globalisation, its side effects are beginning to be seen. A rapid change is being experienced in the attitude and way of thinking of the individual, which changes are not compatible with the Bharatiya (Indian) culture. For this reason, there is a need to work seriously on this issue of family empowerment in the coming times.
Swadeshi and self-reliance: ‘Swa,’ or selfhood, is a concept deeply rooted in Bharatiya (Indian) philosophy. It emphasizes self-awareness, self-reliance, and self-expression while harmonizing with the collective welfare of society. For the youth, embracing ‘Swa’ is not just a personal journey but also a way to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation. Ancient Bharatiya teachings, such as those in the Upanishads, encourage youth to look inward and recognise their ‘Atman’ (soul) as part of a universal whole. This fosters clarity, resilience, and a sense of direction in life. Mindfulness, meditation, and introspection equip young minds to face challenges with confidence. Inspired by Swadeshi (self-reliance) ideals, youth should focus on creating solutions that benefit not just themselves but also their communities. Integrity, sustainability, and a spirit of service should guide their careers. The basic basis of survival in society is ‘self’. If there is no self then society cannot exist. For example, the country of Persia is in front of us, there is nothing of Persia in Persia, neither language, nor worship, nor great men, nor texts. They have nothing of their own. Society died due to the disappearance of ‘self’. If there is no ‘self’ then the society slowly lags behind and dies. Accept what is good i.e. not being fanatic. But preserving your ‘self’ is equally important. External invaders attacked this ‘self’ of ours. Keep in mind that many foreign elements entered into us. Removed something unnecessary from our language. The first attack was on language. One experiences this greater ‘self’ only when this sense of unity becomes deeply ingrained. On the basis of this ‘self’ the spirit of the country should be established. Unity-Advaita became the language of Indian philosophy.
Civic Duties
Awareness of civic responsibilities encourages youth to participate in democratic processes like voting and community service, promoting active citizenship. Engaging in civic duties develops a sense of social responsibility, inspiring actions that benefit the community and nation. Moreover, involvement in civic activities nurtures leadership skills essential for future societal roles. Another aspect of expression of values is our social behaviour. We all live together in society. Some rules are made so that we can live happily together. They also keep changing according to the circumstances of the country and time. But so that we can live together happily, it is essential to follow those rules with devotion. Another aspect of expression of values is our social behaviour. We all live together in society. But so that we can live together happily, it is essential to follow those rules with devotion.
Environmental protection
With India facing pressing environmental challenges, educating youth about conservation practices is crucial for a sustainable future. Understanding environmental issues inspires young people to take action through advocacy, innovation, or community projects. As global citizens, Indian youth must also contribute to international efforts against climate change, emphasising sustainability. We are an inseparable part of this ever-changing world. Our existence is connected and dependent on the entire creation, from earth to space. Therefore, saving the environment means saving the entire living world. Steps like cleanliness, tree plantation, water conservation, and use of clean energy can be helpful in environmental sustainability, thereby boosting India’s long-term development plans.
In conclusion, integrating these values into the lives of young Indians is vital for fostering responsible, engaged, and well-rounded individuals. These principles aid personal development and contribute to shaping a harmonious, sustainable, and prosperous society. As future leaders and change-makers, the youth’s commitment to these ideals will significantly influence India’s growth and progress. We must remember Swami Vivekananda’s profound words: “A brave, frank, clean-hearted, courageous, and aspiring YOUTH is the only foundation on which the future NATION can be built.” Today, more than ever, the youth of India must rise to this call, embracing the principles of Panch Parivartan to shape a prosperous Bharat. The Panch Parivartan provides a clear roadmap for transforming this vision into reality. By integrating these five principles into daily life, the youth can propel the nation towards becoming Viksit Bharat and a beacon of civilisational values for the world. Let us pledge to harness the immense potential within us and embrace Panch Parivartan as our mission.
Together, we can lay the foundation of a resurgent Bharat that leads the world in wisdom, strength, and compassion. As Swami Vivekananda urged, “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.” Only when there is unity of the society, alertness and selfless enterprise in all directions, public welfare governance and people-oriented administration stand on their own foundation and make mutual efforts, the national power becomes prosperous. When a nation full of strength and glory has a culture like our Sanatan culture which considers everyone as its family, which takes us from darkness to light, from untruth to truth and which takes us from death to the immortal life of meaning, then it the nation brings back the lost balance of the world. This is the purpose of the revival of our immortal nation in the present times.
