Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that Government of Kerala submitted the details and accounts of the disasters, in connection with the Wayanad landslides of July 30, 2024, only after three and half months. The statement of accounts was submitted only on November 13. He was replying to the petition submitted by a delegation led by Priyanka Gandhi Vadhra MP.
In his reply, he stated that Central intervention was made available within hours after the occurrence of the mishap. Union Home Minister was in constant touchwith the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. NDRF, Coast Guard and Army were deployed there immediately. Army’s fourteen columns and six helicopters were also deployed. Forces saved 30 victims. 520 people were moved to safe locations.
The very next day, Rs 145.60 crore was allocated for disaster relief fund as the central share. On October 1, another Rs 145.60 crore was contributed as the second instalment. On November 16, high level committee allocated Rs 153.47 crore was also allocated. This amount was allocated for military helicopters and other relief missions. State has not spent Rs 36 crore to remove the waste. Amit Shah said that Rs 782.99 remains in State Disaster Fund.
Amit Shah added that the Ministerial Committee was formed on August 2. They visited the disaster-hit places. Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji visited there also. Prime Minister assured that necessary actions would be taken for the reconstruction of houses, schools, roads and so on and for the future of the children. But, the detailed relief project was submitted after three and half months. A reconstruction project of Rs 2,219 core has been allocated for Kerala.
Home Minister Amit Shah has given a befitting reply to the allegations levelled and being levelled by the CPM and the other partners of the CPM-led ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) that Centre did not and does not grant deserving funds for the disaster relief of the state in connection with the killer landslide in Wayanad.
