Karnataka: Pejawar Swamiji slams CM for misleading people by saying that he called for change in constitution

Pejawar Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji has strongly rejected accusations made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding his stance on the Constitution, clarifying that no such remarks were made. The Swamiji also condemned the Karnataka government's policies on Hindu temples and called for a government that respects Hindu sentiments and unity

In a recent controversy that has sparked outrage among various sections of society, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has come under fire for his comments on the Constitution, which have been criticised as inflammatory and misleading. Pejawar Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji, a prominent Hindu spiritual leader, has strongly condemned the Chief Minister’s remarks, clarifying his position and accusing Siddaramaiah of making baseless allegations.

Clarification from Pejawar Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha

The controversy erupted after comments attributed to Pejawar Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha were misinterpreted, leading to accusations that the Swamiji had called for the change of the Constitution. However, Pejawar Sri has firmly rejected these claims, stating that he never made any such statement. Addressing the issue, the Swamiji expressed disappointment at how Siddaramaiah, in his position of responsibility, failed to verify the facts before commenting.

Speaking at a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP)-led saints’ conference in Bengaluru, Swamiji pointed out that a written resolution had been presented to the Governor, in which the Constitution was not mentioned. He said, “The issue has been created by people acting as if they have rebelled against words that were never spoken. They have accused us without cause, and now they are protesting and condemning us, all because of statements made by the Chief Minister who holds a responsible position.”

The Swamiji emphasised that the statements attributed to him were entirely fabricated and that no reference to the Constitution was ever made. “If the Chief Minister had checked the video clipping and the written letter about this issue, he would have understood the truth,” he added. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the media for spreading misleading information, calling on everyone to avoid doing anything that could divide society and create discord.

A Lifetime of Service to Society

Pejawar Sri, who has consistently dedicated his life to serving all sections of society, also responded to the false accusations about his integrity and actions. He made it clear that he had never violated the Constitution and had always acted in the service of the people. “I vote in every election. I have not committed any unconstitutional act so far. I have lived in love with all sections of society. We are continuously serving the weaker sections of society. We visit Dalits and build houses for the poor,” Swamiji said, highlighting his ongoing efforts to uplift marginalised communities.

Swamiji also noted that the Pejawar Math has been instrumental in constructing houses for the Koraga community with the support of donors. Recently, 14 houses worth Rs 16 lakh were built for the community, and plans were made to construct 100 houses. He emphasised that his math work was inspired by love and compassion, not political or controversial motives.

Swamiji Criticises the Government’s approach to temples

Pejawar Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha spoke out against the Karnataka government’s policy towards Hindu religious institutions in a broader critique. He condemned the 5 per cent tax on temples with an income of Rs 10 lakh and the 10 per cent tax on temples with an income of Rs 1 crore, calling it an unjust burden on the religious centres that serve the people. He pointed out that the proposal sent by the government to the Governor had been rejected, but this did not resolve the issue of Hindu temples being subjected to unfair restrictions.

“The government is trying to keep Hindu religious centres under control, while the religious centers of other communities are left independent,” Swamiji remarked. He questioned why such discriminatory policies were being implemented, pointing out that temples often cannot utilise hundi money to rebuild dilapidated temples, and priests are not being paid proper salaries. “The lands kings and rulers once donated are being treated as government property and used for various other purposes. Why this two-faced policy?” Swamiji demanded.

He also stressed the need for a government that respects the sentiments of Hindus. “It is not about any one political party, it is about a government that values and respects the sentiments of Hindus. The people need a government that understands and honors their traditions, values, and beliefs,” he said.

The Call for a Government That Respects Hindu Sentiments

Swamiji also clarified his position regarding most Hindus in India, stating, “According to the census, this is Hindustan. Bharat, India, is a country dominated by Hindus. I have said that a government should be brought to power that values the sentiments of Hindus. I never said anything about changing or amending the Constitution. I never used the word ‘Constitution’.” He stressed that governments must be elected to serve all citizens equally, without discriminating against any section of society.

Siddaramaiah’s False Attacks on Pejawar Sri

In response to these clarifications, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had earlier attacked Pejawar Sri, accusing him of being a proponent of the Manusmriti and questioning Swamiji’s intentions. However, Pejawar Sri has firmly rejected these accusations and emphasised that his focus has always been on social service and the well-being of society as a whole. “You should ask him why he is making these false accusations. Hindu society does not have a single mouthpiece. It has many faces. It cannot be silenced or suppressed,” Swamiji retorted.

A Call for Unity and Respect

Pejawar Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha called for unity and wisdom in his final words. He appealed to everyone to avoid being swayed by misleading accusations and to avoid creating societal divisions. “I can fight the law but have many other things to do. May God grant everyone good wisdom,” he concluded.

The controversy surrounding Siddaramaiah’s remarks and the media frenzy highlight the growing tensions between political leaders and religious figures in Karnataka. As the debate continues to unfold, Pejawar Sri’s call for unity and respect for all communities serves as a reminder of the importance of truth, harmony, and responsible leadership.
