Imphal: N. Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur, said on November 26 that massive search operations are in progress to catch the people behind the tragic murders of three women and three children in Jiribam district. The Chief Minister promised that operations would continue until justice is done, despite the fact that no arrests have been made so far. Several suspects have been named so far by the security forces but no one has been arrested.
CM Biren Singh disclosed that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over three crucial cases related to recent violence in the state during a press conference at the CM Secretariat. These include the Borobekra attack on November 11, in which militants set fire to houses, murdered two residents, and kidnapped and killed six more. Another case taken up by NIA concerns the ruthless murder of Zosangkim, a Hmar woman, on November 7 in Jiribam.
CM Singh also emphasized the continued search for Laishram Kamalbabu, who vanished close to the Leimakhong Army base. To speed up the inquiry, an FIR has been lodged by the police. The Chief Minister emphasized that the action would aid in restoring peace and accountability and restated his demand that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) be removed from areas where it was reinstated amid ethnic strife. CM Singh stressed that Manipur’s complicated problems, including outside influences, had been communicated to the Home Ministry and national and international authorities.
Meanwhile, the Indian army launched a massive search operation for the missing person. At Leimakhong Military Station, missing Kamal Babu was employed by a contractual worker affiliated with Military Engineering Services (MES). His relatives stated that on the evening of November 25, 2024, the person did not come home. The Army instantly activated all of its resources in response to the input. Carefully examining CCTV footage, speaking with his coworkers, and launching a rigorous search operation that includes tracker dogs are all part of the ongoing investigation. A comprehensive search of the surroundings has failed to locate the person or his two-wheeler.
With increased intensity, the combing operation has expanded throughout the military installation and surrounding communities. There has also been integration of drones and other airborne platforms. To find the missing person, army officials have communicated with local CSOs. The family has received assurances that the Army is making every effort to ensure Kamal Babu returns safely and promptly, an statement released by the army reads.
