Imphal: The Kuki terrorists’ heinous conduct of kidnapping and holding innocent individuals as hostages persists in Manipur. This time, Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, 56, has been missing since the morning of November 25. His last sighting was on his way to work at the Indian Army colony in Leimakhong. He lives in Loitang Khunou, Manipur. His wife and minor son beg for his safe release so that he can reunite with their family. Tension escalated in the area after the news of a missing person circulated fast. Hundreds of women went to the police station and protested demanding immediate rescue of the missing person.
As per report, Kamal Singh entered the Army camp, but there is no record of him leaving, which raises grave concerns. His wife, L. Bederani, and their kid have made a public plea for assistance, asking the community and authorities to make sure he returns safely. They described how authorities denied any knowledge of his departure even though there was unmistakable proof of his entry. Leimakhing has traditionally been a sensitive area; it is roughly 16–17 miles from Imphal metropolis. There are Kuki-dominated areas all around the camp, and there have been other reports of Meitei citizens going missing in similar situations in the past. There are concerns about a reoccurring trend of targeted kidnappings because many of these cases have been connected to Kuki Narco-Terrorist groups.
After the report of another kidnap by suspected Kuki terrorists, Kanto Village women protested and called for the safe release of Kamal Singh. Human rights groups and community leaders have asked the media to draw attention to the problem and demanded an immediate investigation. In addition to endangering intercommunal tranquility, the frequent kidnappings of Meetei people by suspected Kuki organizations also put the region’s security system in jeopardy. To guarantee justice and safety for the residents of these conflict-prone areas, a team effort is required.
Meanwhile, NIA has launched thorough investigations into three major cases relating to the recent spate of violence in Manipur.
The agency re-registered 3 cases afresh recently after the Home Ministry decided to hand over the investigations to it considering the gravity of the offences, amid escalating violence in the state and with a view to unearth the larger conspiracy behind the brutal attacks.
