Kerala: Christians demand action as holy Oorara found in toilet after Namaz demand denied by nuns at convent

An alarming and unsettling incident has been reported from Alakkode in the Kannur district. A group of Muslims allegedly entered a nuns’ convent in Alakkode with an unusual demand: they wanted to perform namaz (Islamic prayer) inside the monastery. When their unreasonable and excessive demand was denied, they reportedly showered the nuns with abuse and issued threats.

Subsequently, it is alleged that the miscreants took the Oorara (Holy Qurbana Notes) from Chembathontti St. George Ferone Church and threw it into a toilet.

A school youth festival was being conducted at St. George High School and Cherupushpam Upper Primary School, situated on the premises of the church belonging to the Thalassery Diocese. During the event, a group of Muslim students, accompanied by a male teacher, allegedly approached the priest of the church with the unusual request to pray in the church courtyard. The priest informed them that there were two mosques nearby where they could perform namaz.

However, instead of heading to the mosques, they proceeded to a nearby monastery for nuns and repeated the same demand. When this was also refused, they reportedly caused a commotion. The monastery’s residents alerted the police, who subsequently expelled the group from the premises.

By the evening, it was discovered that the Holy Oorara was missing. Later, it was found discarded in a toilet. Unfortunately, as the CCTV cameras did not cover the altar area, it is unclear who was responsible for taking the Oorara.

The parish authorities have demanded strict action by the police against those responsible for this incident.

This incident is seen as yet another attempt by Islamists to assert dominance over the believers of other religions in Kerala. It reflects a disregard for the laws of the land and mirrors the same kind of threats associated with Waqf practices in Kerala and across the country.

In Kerala, there is a deeper intent behind such repeated intrusions into Christian worship places. Incidents like these seem to align with a concerning pattern, as highlighted in the ‘The Kerala Story’ movie. This includes aggressive strategies such as targeting Christian women through so-called “love jihad” and, more recently, attempts to seize land through Waqf claims at Munambam called as “Land Jihad”. It seems that these are not isolated events, indicating a systematic plan to erode Christian identity and assert dominance.
