In a shocking incident that has intensified community tensions, a group of ten individuals, allegedly driven by religious extremism, vandalized Hindu temples in Jukal village under Shamshabad Mandal on the night of November 9. The group reportedly desecrated idols at the Somayya, Choudamma, and Pochamma temples, defiling the deities by stripping their garments and damaging the eyes of the idols. Locals alerted to the attack apprehended one of the perpetrators, while nine others fled the scene. Police have detained the suspect in custody as an investigation unfolds.

Locals suspect the attacker to be a Muslim. When apprehended, he initially tried to mislead them but later confessed to the crime.

Jukal village is located 10 kilometers from Shamshabad Mandal in Rangareddy District, where the international airport is situated.

Yet another deeply distressing incident has unfolded in Telangana, where a revered Hindu temple has suffered a desecration under the watch of the current Congress government.

The recent attack follows a string of targeted acts of violence against Hindu temples across Telangana, fueling fear and frustration among the Hindu community. Dr. Ravinuthala Shashidhar, National Spokesperson for the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), visited the site along with representatives from the local VHP committee to assess the damage. During his visit, he offered a saree to the desecrated goddess as a gesture of respect and solidarity.

Speaking to Organiser, Dr. Shashidhar expressed deep dismay over what he termed the “government’s failure” to curb these attacks and take strict action against the culprits. He criticized state authorities, stating, “The continuous incidents of temple attacks in Telangana are a sign of the government’s complete failure to protect Hindu religious sites. By dismissing these acts as mere random vandalism, the state emboldens extremist elements to persist with their attacks.” He questioned whether the government’s lax approach toward the issue is unintentionally encouraging religious extremists to act without fear of consequence. Dr. Shashidhar demanded immediate arrests of all suspects in the Jukal case and called for comprehensive action to deter future attacks.

Beyond Jukal, the incident has stirred concerns among Hindu residents of Shamshabad, who voiced alarm over the increased frequency of temple vandalism in recent months. Several community members expressed fears about their safety and the protection of their religious heritage. “Our temples are our sanctuaries, symbols of our faith. To see them defiled repeatedly, with little to no action from the authorities, is devastating,” one resident shared.

In recent months, Hyderabad has witnessed a disturbing series of temple attacks, raising concerns about the safety of Hindu religious sites. The list of temples targeted includes the Bhulaxmi Temple in Rakshapuram, the Mathaji Temple in Shivaji Nagar, and the Matha Temple in Amberpet. Additionally, a Mathaji idol was damaged at the Exhibition Grounds, and the Muthyalamma Temple in Secunderabad was desecrated. Most recently, this Tuesday morning, the Navagraha idols at the Hanuman Temple in Shamshabad Airport Colony were found damaged.

The VHP further escalated demands, urging the authorities to immediately detain suspected illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi Muslim residents in Shamshabad. Dr. Shashidhar highlighted the need for increased scrutiny over the activities of non-local individuals in mosques across the region.

The incident at Jukal has added to an unsettling pattern of temple desecration in Telangana. According to reports, attacks on Hindu religious sites have been on the rise, contributing to rising communal friction and a growing sense of vulnerability among the Hindu populace. Community leaders warn that the repeated assaults on temples are eroding public trust in the state’s ability to maintain communal harmony. The VHP and local Hindu organizations are now pressuring the government to take immediate and decisive steps to address what they see as a growing threat to religious peace and security in the region.

On the other hand, Congress leaders remain eerily silent on the issue of temple attacks in Telangana. Even Konda Surekha, the Minister for Forest, Environment, and Endowments, has failed to address or condemn these growing acts of vandalism, highlighting the party’s indifference towards the safety of religious institutions.

As tensions rise, Hindu community leaders are urging the government to act swiftly, fearing that inaction could lead to further escalation. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials have assured the public that they are investigating the incident and will work toward restoring peace and security in Shamshabad.
