Imphal: Manipur police and security forces have neutralised 10 suspected terrorists in a hour long gunfight in Jiribam district.

As per the police sources, on 11th November, 2024 at about 3 pm, the CRPF Post located at Jakuradhor and Borobekra Police Station (located nearby), Jiribam District were attacked by armed terrorists. The security forces retaliated strongly. In the hour long heavy gunfight 10 terrorists were killed and their dead bodies were recovered in the search operation by security personnel after the fire fight was over.

A statement issued by Manipur police reads, “Due to the attack, one CRPF constable namely Sanjeev Kumar sustained bullet injury and has been evacuated to Silchar Medical College, Assam and is under treatment. The attack was fiercely retaliated by CRPF and Civil Police. After 40 – 45 minutes of heavy exchange of fire, the situation was brought under control. After the firing ceased, the area was searched and 10 (ten) dead bodies of armed militants were recovered along with arms and ammunition.” Police confirmed that large numbers of automatic weapons were recovered from the possession of the killed terrorists.  3 AKs, 4SLRs, 2  INSAS and 1 RPG, 1  Pump Action Gun, BP Helmets and Magazines were recovered by the security forces from the spot.

Accordingly, a criminal case has been registered and is being investigated by Manipur police.

Operations in and around Jakuradhor, under Borobekra Police Station, Jiribam District continues to flush out armed militants. Reinforcement teams consisting of Assam Rifles, CRPF and Civil Police have been rushed there. Police sources said that the killed terrorists were involved in a series of attacks and arson incidents targeting the Meitei community in the Jiribam district bordering Assam. It should be mentioned that Jiribam.district was peaceful during the first 12 months of violence in Manipur started in May 2023. But after the Lok Sabha election, Kuki terrorists targeted the Meitei villages in the district. Several innocent civilians were killed in attacks by the terrorists and numbers of houses were set ablaze by the suspected Kuki terrorists.

CM N Biren Singh convoy was also attacked by terrorists when the CM was slated to visit the violence hit district in June this year. Many security installations including police stations were also attacked by the Kuki terrorists in the last 5 months. Today’s incidents was also such an attack by the Kuki terrorists on security forces. But a befitting retaliation by the alert security personnel successfully thwarted the attack and killed the armed terrorists.
