Kuki militants attack Meitei farmers with RPGs

Kuki militants in violence-plagued Manipur continue to attack innocent Meitei civilians with advanced weaponry. On November 11, Kuki terrorists shot and killed Sapam Ongbi Sonia Devi, a young married woman who was working in a rice field. She was the wife of S Dayananda Singh of Kumbi Watha Lambi, Bishnupur district. The attacks from hilltop using long range firearms resulting the killing of the innocent woman who was busy in her paddy field harvesting her rice cultivation.

As Kuki terrorists target Meitei villagers labouring in the paddy fields during the busy harvest season, violence in the Imphal East district’s periphery keeps becoming worse. Kuki terrorist groups have been attacking the foothill areas from the summits of the hills since November 10. Another incident happened in the Yaingangpokpi neighbourhood of Imphal East on November 11, injuring two people. They were harvesting paddy near Yaingangpokpi when suspected armed Kuki terrorists opened fire at approximately 9:20 am, according to sources.

The Yaingangpokpi Primary Health Center (PHC) provided treatment for both injured parties. Three other people who were with them in the field are still missing. Early on November 10 morning, armed militants intensified the bloodshed in the Imphal East district by launching a series of targeted strikes. Kuki terrorists fired on villagers from hilltops with a view of the valley during their attacks on several villages, including Thamnapokpi, Yaingangpokpi, Sabungkhok, and Sanasabi.

Groups of terrorists launched three rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) at farmers working in paddy fields close to Thamnapokpi at around 9:30 am on November 10. Following a flurry of gunfire that forced the residents to evacuate, insurgents and a combined security team from the Maha Regiment, Border Security Force (BSF), and local police engaged in combat. In the process of retaliating, one member of the Maha Regiment suffered an arm injury. The conflict lasted until the afternoon when security personnel were able to stabilise the situation.
