Minister NS Boseraju Accused of Forest Land Encroachment

BENGALURU: The Congress-led Karnataka government is once again under the spotlight, with mounting allegations of corruption against its ministers. In a fresh development, RTI activist Dinesh Kallahalli has accused Forest Minister NS Boseraju of illegal land encroachment, further adding to the growing list of controversies surrounding the Siddaramaiah cabinet. Kallahalli has approached the Governor, demanding action against Boseraju and calling for his removal from the cabinet.

The latest allegations against Boseraju are not an isolated incident. The Congress government in Karnataka has been embroiled in a series of scandals, bringing the administration’s integrity into question. The ongoing controversies have led to serious doubts about the party’s commitment to transparency and good governance, with critics dubbing Congress a “scam party.”

The controversies began with allegations against Ministers MB Patil and Priyank Kharge. Both ministers have been accused of illegal land acquisition and misusing their positions for personal gain. These accusations have already led to complaints being filed with the Governor, demanding an investigation and strict action. Now, the case against NS Boseraju has further intensified the spotlight on Congress ministers and their alleged corrupt practices.

According to the complaint filed by Dinesh Kallahalli, Minister NS Boseraju has been accused of illegally encroaching on 5 acres and 27 guntas of forest land in Raichur. The land is said to have been registered in the name of his wife, NS Krishnaveni, allegedly using his ministerial influence to carry out the illegal activity. Raichur’s  deputy range  forest officer has investigated the matter and submitted a report to the court, identifying Krishnaveni and other associates, including CH Srinivas, Mutyala Tirumala, and V. Shivanada, as the key individuals involved in the illegal encroachment.

Kallahalli claims that rules regarding land encroachment were blatantly violated, with Boseraju and his associates exploiting their political connections to seize valuable forest land. The market value of the land is reportedly worth hundreds of crores, making this an alarming case of potential corruption.

In his complaint, Kallahalli has accused Boseraju of using his ministerial powers to influence the encroachment, further asserting that there has been a clear bias and abuse of authority. He alleges that Boseraju’s wife, Krishnaveni, played a pivotal role in the acquisition of the land and that a group was formed to facilitate the illegal occupation of the forest area. The activist has called for a thorough investigation into the matter and demanded that Boseraju be removed from the cabinet for misusing his power.

“The Congress government is mired in corruption, and this is just another example of how the ministers are exploiting their positions for personal gain. This is a violation of not only legal boundaries but also moral and ethical standards. We demand strict action and the immediate resignation of NS Boseraju,” said Kallahalli in his statement.

The scandal involving NS Boseraju is not an isolated case. Recently, allegations of land scams involving the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) and MUDA also surfaced, implicating several high-profile Congress leaders including CM Siddaramaiahs family . The ongoing Valmiki and MUDA scam cases have led to intense criticism from opposition parties, who have accused the Congress of running a government plagued with corruption.

The opposition, especially the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has not hesitated to label the Congress administration as a “scam government.” BJP leaders have repeatedly highlighted the string of corruption cases involving Congress ministers, pointing out that such incidents have been a recurring theme across multiple Congress-led administrations.

The recent spate of accusations has revived the age-old perception of the Congress party being synonymous with corruption. For decades, the party has been at the center of multiple high-profile corruption cases, ranging from the Bofors scandal in the 1980s to the 2G scam and the Commonwealth Games scam in recent years. The allegations against Karnataka ministers are seen as a continuation of the same pattern.

The BJP has capitalized on these incidents, branding the Congress as a “scam party” and urging voters to reconsider their choices. “Corruption and Congress go hand in hand. Every time they are in power, these scandals come out one after another. The current situation in Karnataka is proof of how deeply rooted corruption is in the Congress culture. We are demanding strict action against all those who misuse their position for illegal gains,” said C T Ravi a  senior BJP leader.

With the complaint filed against NS Boseraju, all eyes are now on the Governor and the state government to see how they will respond to these serious allegations. The matter is likely to escalate if the investigation substantiates the claims of illegal land acquisition, adding to the challenges facing the Siddaramaiah-led government.

The opposition is expected to intensify its attacks on the Congress, especially with the upcoming by elections. Corruption has always been a critical issue for voters, and any sign of impropriety can significantly affect the party’s   electoral prospects.

As the investigation progresses, the people of Karnataka will be closely watching to see whether the Congress  would  suspend tainted ministers including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah   who is facing corruption charges.  But the congress high command in no mood to take action against  erring ministers  instead supporting defending them.
