PATNA: Union Minister for Textiles and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Giriraj Singh is all set to commence his Hindu Swabhiman Yatra (Hindu self-respect march) from Friday, October 18. If sources are to be believed, the first phase of the proposed yatra will commence from Bhagalpur and will conclude on October 22 in Kishanganj, the eastern most district of Bihar adjacent to West Bengal.

The two-time parliamentarian from Begusarai will commence his yatra by offering prayers at a temple in Bhagalpur on Friday. The yatra will pass from Katihar on October 19 before reaching Purnia, the headquarters of the Seemanchal region on October 20.

Singh’s yatra will reach Araria on October 21 and will move further to Kishanganj on October 22, where he will conclude the first phase of the much debated outreach campaign, aimed at uniting the Hindu community.

Earlier, the BJP stalwart while raising concern over the atrocities on Hindu in Bangladesh has said that the time has come to unite Hindus. “India will not tolerate the atrocities unleashed on Hindus in Bangladesh. The day Bangladesh’s incident (violence against minority Hindus) unfolded I felt that time has come to unite Hindus”.

Singh’s march however has irked the opposition leaders who have trained guns on the union minister’s, terming his proposed march a bid to promote divisive politics in Bihar. Taking on Singh, Indian National Congress (INC) MLC, Prem Chandra Mishra said that if the union minister is concerned about the incidents of Bangladesh then he should do a gherao of the Bangladeshi embassy in New Delhi or visit the Bangladesh itself if it satisfy him.

Though known for his firebrand politics, the union minister hit back the opposition leaders for pointing fingers on his proposed yatra. “Why the opposition leaders are pained if I am undertaking a march. Haven’t the opposition leaders taken out yatras in the states earlier? No one complained when Tejaswi Yadav held a yatra. Theirs’s are political and for votes while our is only to awaken,” said Singh.

The way things have unfolded in neighboring Bangladesh and earlier in Pakistan, we have not remained… If anything happened in Myanmar, Lebanon people gets offended here. We have not been pained by any such things. We are carrying this for us and will convey the message Batoge to Katoge (divided we fall), added the union minister.

It must be noted that the Seemanchal region of Bihar which encompasses districts like Purnia, Katihar, Araria, Kishanganj has a significant population of the Muslim community where the BJP led NDA has lost three out of the four seats in the Lok Sabha polls, retaining only the Araria Lok Sabha constituency.
