On September 12, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi-led Odisha Cabinet, approved 10 per cent reservation for Agniveers in state uniform services. The decision allocates 10 per cent of vacancies in police, forest guard, fire service, and excise department posts for ex-Agniveers, facilitating their transition to state services.
Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja briefed the media at Lok Seva Bhawan after the Cabinet meeting, stating that the proposed rule aims to offer abundant job opportunities to Ex-Agniveers in uniform services, covering all Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ posts in the state’s direct recruitment. This 10 per cent reservation will be provided for veterans over and above the existing reservation benefits.
“The Agniveers serve in the military for four years. They have all the necessary training. After four years, only a few eligible ones are given an extension. But, now Odisha will provide 10 per cent reservation for these Agniveers in uniform services,” said Manoj Ahuja.
To be eligible, Agniveers must meet the minimum qualifications specified in the recruitment rules for the respective posts as they receive their Agniveer certificate. However, they will be exempt from the physical efficiency test. They will receive a three-year age relaxation in the upper age limit, providing a more accessible pathway to employment.
Cabinet nod to transfer Gopalpur Port’s 95 per cent equity shares to Adani Ports.
The Odisha Cabinet has also approved a proposal to develop Gopalpur Port into a deep-sea, all-weather port through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the Build Own Operate Share Transfer (BOOST) mode. The existing developer, Gopalpur Ports Ltd, a consortium of Odisha Stevedores Limited, Noble Group Limited, and Sara International Limited, will transfer 95 per cent of its equity shares to Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ). The transfer from Shapoorji Pallonji Port Maintenance Private Limited (56 per cent) and Orissa Stevedores Limited (39 per cent) was approved by the Cabinet, along with permission to sign a Revised Concession Agreement for the development and expansion of Gopalpur Ports Limited.
Daughters of Odisha government employees are to get compassionate appointments irrespective of their marital status.
The Odisha Cabinet has also approved a proposal to introduce new rules for the rehabilitation assistance scheme, allowing unmarried daughters of deceased government employees to be appointed on compassionate grounds. This decision ensures that daughters of government employees who pass away while in service will receive rehabilitation support. As per the Cabinet decision, even stepdaughters can be eligible to replace their deceased fathers.
“If a government employee dies during his service tenure, then his daughter/stepdaughter irrespective of their marital status can be given his post on compassionate grounds under the rehabilitation scheme,” Ahuja stated.
