NEW DELHI: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and Delhi University Students’ Union on Friday, September 6 held a Press Conference at the DUSU office to highlight their one year tenure work. ABVP National Secretary, Shivangi Kharwal, ABVP Delhi State Secretary, Harsh Attri, DUSU President, Tushar Dedha and DUSU Secretary Aprajita addressed the press conference on topics ranging from U Special buses to Women manifesto.
During the tenure of ABVP-led DUSU, the office bearers raised various demands across the administration on student issues. ABVP-led DUSU has solved major issues on campus. The establishment of campus security vehicles- Vamika, Construction of Girls hostel in University, Internal Complaint Committee and gender Sensitization camps highlighted the union’s commitment towards empowering women. Efforts to reinstate U-Special buses through the remaining DUSU funds has been a key area of focus. To facilitate students’ growth, ABVP led DUSU also provided students with internship opportunities and set up a foundation for a student utility center.
DUSU President Tushar Dedha stated, “During our tenure, we not only acted as the voice of students’ needs and demands and conveyed them to the administration, but also fought to bring them to results. The foundation of the construction of a Student Center in Delhi University is one of their major achievements. We organized various internships for skills development, with media internships being a main one. During the tenure, 3,248 students’ issues were resolved. Moreover, we launched the “DUSU in Campus” campaign across various constituent colleges of DU, where thousands of students connected with ABVP led DUSU and their problems were addressed. We also led movements against the Delhi government, such as advocating for rent control to protect students living in PGs and flats from uncontrolled rents, and strongly opposing the Delhi government’s attempt to merge 12 DU colleges into Ambedkar University. In addition to these, there are more than 85 achievements under the ABVP-led DUSU tenure.
DUSU Secretary Aparajita stated that, “ABVP-led DUSU has fulfilled 100 per cent of the promises made in their women’s manifesto. They have carried out a number of important initiatives for women empowerment and to create a safer campus. Keeping the safety of female students in mind, we started the 24-hour “Vamika” service on the Delhi University campus. Through contact and struggle with the university and police administration, we ensured the arrangement of women’s PCR vans outside all colleges. Through “Mission Sahasi,” we trained women on how to use everyday items like pens and metro cards to protect themselves. As part of the “Ritumati” campaign, we not only spread awareness about menstrual health among women living in more than 200 slums but also distributed sanitary pads. We have also reinstalled sanitary pad vending machines in various colleges.”
Delhi State Secretary, Harsh Attri stated, “Over the years, ABVP led DUSU has been committed to work towards addressing students’ issues. During the tenure 2023-2024, ABVP led DUSU worked towards resolving student grievances and fostering a better campus environment. Since the start of this tenure, we have reached out to students on ground level and interacted with them. In the upcoming DUSU elections, ABVP is committed to keep working for the student’s interest and create a stronger and better student representation. In past years, ABVP has achieved to foster student growth through its work and emerged as a trusted organization within the students.”
