The incident led to communal tensions between two clans in the area, prompting the district authorities to enforce Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in the subdivision until August 28

Guwahati: Following the vandalism of a Goddess Kali murti on August 25, which resulted in communal conflict between two clans in Durganagar village in Tripura. The district authority on  August 26 enforced 163 BNSS (Section 144) in the Jirania Sub-division under West Tripura District until August 28. According to state government sources, a group of engry mob broke into Durganagar village in the Jirania Subdivision on Sunday and set fire to many buildings after miscreants damaging an icon of Goddess Kali in a shrine and vandalised it. Unknown people  set fire to and vandalised a few residences.

A few cars were set on fire as well. We quickly sent in large security troops and stabilised the situation following the event, the insider said. The officer went on to say that between ten and twelve residences were attacked, and some livestock was also hurt. Following the tragedy, the local MLA and Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Sushanta Chowdhury, hurried to the scene, talked with the victims and residents, and assisted in bringing the situation under control. “At this point, everything is under control. There have been no recent reports of occurrences. The person continued, “We have security forces stationed throughout the area.

In the meantime, Jirania Sub-division was subject to an order enforcing 163 BNSS (Section 144) on Monday by West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar. He stated in the order that there is a fear of a breach of peace because of violent actions by a group of persons beneath Jirania Subdivision, according to information obtained from the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura.
