His visit underscores the Indian Army's commitment to restoring peace and stability in the trouble-hit region

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi holds meeting with Manipur CM N Biren Singh

Imphal: On August 23 General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), arrived in Manipur for a two-day visit to the trouble-hit state. Commanders on the ground briefed the COAS on operational readiness upon arrival. Moreover, General Upendra Dwivedi met with the leaders of the state’s security agencies and thanked them for their insightful contributions. During a crucial meeting with Manipur’s Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, the COAS talked about the state of internal security in the state and the Assam Rifles’ and Indian Army’s involvement in bringing peace and stability back to Manipur as soon as possible. The Indian Army’s dedication to providing a safe environment for the people of Manipur was reiterated by the COAS.

General Upendra Dwivedi also spoke with the soldiers during his visit, praising their professionalism, operational preparedness, and commitment to duty. Furthermore, the COAS visited with veterans and expressed gratitude for their selfless service and significant contribution to nation-building. During the visit, Lt Gen RC Tiwari, the GOC-in-C of Eastern Command, and Lt Gen Abhijit S. Pendharkar, the Commander of Spear Corps, accompanied the Chief of Army Staff. The COAS will attend several security meetings with the top commanders of the troops in Manipur and other NE states before leaving for Delhi on 24th August. Talking about the meeting with the COAS CM Singh said,”Had a productive meeting with General Upendra Dwivedi.

I deeply appreciate General Dwivedi’s visit to Manipur. Deliberated on critical issues concerning the current situation of our state. We reaffirmed the cooperation between the state government and the security forces in effectively responding to the challenges we face, maintaining peace and harmony in the state.”
